Democrats Use Dead Americans as Campaign Props
    by Michael Reagan

    Jul 14, 2006

    EXCERPT

Just when you think that the national Democrats can sink no lower, they reach down into the mud and mire in their bag of political tricks and come up with a new and slimier example of their utter shamelessness.

Not content with merely undermining the valiant efforts of our servicemen and women risking and sometimes losing their lives fighting international terrorism around the world, the Democrats have now produced a video commercial exploiting the deaths of American soldiers and Marines in order to raise money and win votes.

And let's just clarify before the liberal onslaught begins.

It's not the pictures we object to. It's the use of the photos and the spirit in which they're displayed.

Yeah, the notion that someone should be accountable for this mess is just awful. Why those dirty democrats actually showed a flag-draped coffin, and a rifle stuck in ground with a helmet on it! Why, people might get to think that troops are dying.

In previous wars, this was considered "honoring our fallen soldiers." With Bush and the neocons, they are just embarassing detritus of war, to be kept out of sight. We sneak them back into the country in the dead of night so no one will see.

And let's get it right. What the neocons hate is not the way it's presented, it's that people will understand what the cost of their little ideological adventure really is. The cynical disregard people like Bush and Cheney and the other chickenhawks have for men and women who actually serve honorably is disgusting. This partisan and unpatriotic attempt to hide all traces of those who made the ultimate sacrifice is disgusting.

I didn't know political parties used pictures of flag draped coffins to make commercials in our previous wars. Strange way to "honor" the fallen.

Do you have some kind of proof? Or a link?

Yes, I think this is probably true. It is too bad that Democrats are not using these pictures to honor the fallen, but rather, to dishonor their mission for which they died for political gain. If only we could go back to the times of previous wars where these types of pictures were actually meant to honor the fallen, their sacrifice, and the mission for which they gave their lives freely.

Yeah, cause nobody knows that over 2500 soldiers have given their lives thus far. How is anyone going to know unless we show pictures of the coffins?

Democrats use the dead as campaign props? Did anyone see the shameful display about the 9/11 casualties and families at the Republican National Convention in 2004? It was so over the top it made me sick.

Then you should also be sick over this shameful use of our dead to make a political commercial.

Why is it that you're not?

    "That's different."

The neocon propagandists have declared that talking about the loss of life (or God forbid, show a coffin) is evil if it's used to stop the war.

It is, of course, patriotic and noble if it's done to continue the war.

Democrats pull ad with flag-draped coffins By SEANNA ADCOX, Associated

    Press Writer
Fri Jul 14, 8:45 PM ET

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Democrats pulled an Internet ad that showed flag-draped coffins Friday after Republicans and at least two Democrats demanded it be taken down on grounds the image was insensitive and not fit for a political commercial.

The ad by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee called for a "new direction" and displayed a staccato of images, including war scenes, pollution and breached levees as well as a photograph of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay doctored to look like a police mug shot.

It has nothing to do with honoring anyone. If they truly wanted to honor fallen soldiers, then why aren't they talking about the many successes that these soldiers and Marines bought with their lives?

You will never hear a liberal say, "Thanks to the brave sacrifice of Sgt. Smith, a Iraqis are free." "Thanks to the sacrifice of Pvt Jones, women in Afghanistan can vote now".

That is honoring a fallen soldier.

Acknowledging what he died for and what he accomplished in his life and by his death and showing an attitude of gratefulness for that is honoring a fallen soldier.

Showing a picture of his casket and saying, "this poor dupe is a victim of George Bush. Now give us some money", is not honoring them, it is exploiting them and once again illustrates the complete lack of any sense of patriotism or morality on the part of liberals.

Because he's a liberal and, therefore, a hypocrite.

First of all, carpro, who says I am not. I am simply pointing out that you righties hypocracy is showing. Outrage when someone on the left does this, but give a free pass to neocons doing it.

As to Mike, you need to invest a few dollars in a dictionary. Liberal and hypocrite are entirely two different things. Plus, yep, I'm liberal on some things, very conservative on others, so your binary world view is flawed. Indeed, I don't want anyone exploting the dead.

This un-Christlike name-calling and ad hominem is the last refuge of one who has no lucid argument to make.

Yes, we're aware of this, thank you.

    Liberal refers to one's politics.

Hypocrite refers to a common characteristic of liberals.

As well as of conservatives who claim to be for limited government yet support candidates who do not embrace the concept of limited government and who claim to be for limited government but have no problem with big government in the area of individual liberties.

Actually, I'm much sicker than these brave American soldiers died in a war that was completely unjustified. Buch keep trying to come up with a good reason for invading Iraq. Now what was it that he finally settled on? Afghanistan was a just war. Israel is justified in attacking the Hasballah. But Iraq was a war that happened because Bush/Cheney/Rumsfield wanted for it to happen.
