This is not a new idea, but as we know Trump gets things done which need to be done.

The way I see it, Mexico seems incapable of cleaning up this mess. They probably would be capable except for the corruption.

This has gone on far too long. The deaths from drugs and gang violence spilling over the border justifies our taking action.

I believe Mexico's reasoning for not accepting our help goes deeper than just wanting to protect their sovereignty, I believe the underlying truth is they are protecting this highly profitable business.

Heavily armed cartel fighters surrounded security forces and made them free one of drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman’s sons, whose brief apprehension triggered intense gunbattles across the city of Culiacan.

Security Minister Alfonso Durazo said a patrol by National Guard militarized police first came under attack from within a house in the city, 600 km (370 miles) northwest of Mexico City.

After entering the house, they found four men including Ovidio Guzman, who is accused of drug trafficking in the United States.

The patrol was quickly overpowered by cartel gunmen, however, and the decision was taken to withdraw to protect the lives of the National Guard and restore calm in the city, where gangsters had set up roadblocks and were unleashing heavy automatic gunfire, Durazo said.

What a half-baked attempt! Where was the Intel and preparedness? Same story different day...

These gun toting thugs would never "overpower" the US military!

Back in the 70s, I was at a lecture where General Moshe Dayan, of Israel, was speaking. He was asked why Israel makes frequent incursions into Lebanon. He said simply that Lebanon was incapable of controlling its' border with Israel and was allowing attackers to go in and out of Lebanon to attack Israel.

The U.S. did the same thing in 1916, I think it was, by going into Mexico to try and get Pancho Villa, a bandit who had crossed our southern border and attacked U. S. citizens. (My grandpa was part of that incursion force. I wish I had gotten him to tell me about his experience there). We did it back then, and we should at least muster troops on the border and let Mexico know that we are ready to do it again.

Substitute China for Mexico and opioids for drugs and gang violence. Now, are you going to declare the Chinese opioid merchants terrorists?

It's better than the government treating its own citizens like terrorists.

The British were the Opiod merchants and U.S. declared war on them twice because the British are terrorists. That's why Islam is more popular than Christianity in their country.

That being said, the Mexican drug cartels have killed far more people in twenty years than the British Opium dealers did in a couple of centuries with a larger population.

But if you haven't read the news recently, opium is basically dead in China. So, you are looking way, way back in history to find an equivalent problem.

No, I'm looking to the present times.

China sentences fentanyl traffickers after US tip about ring

Scrambling to contain surging overdose deaths, Washington has blamed Beijing for failing to curb the supply of synthetic drugs that U.S. officials say come mainly from China. In August, President Donald Trump lashed out at Chinese President Xi Jinping for failing to do more to combat illicit opioid distribution in China's vast, freewheeling chemicals industry. U.S. officials have reportedly moved to link Beijing's efforts on fentanyl to U.S. trade talks.

The big problem in China is that a lot of these drugs which are banned in the U.S. are still legal in China. And so the companies can make them with the full support of the government and have them basically smuggled into the U.S. ... The biggest and most disturbing revelation from my book was that not only is China not doing enough to contain this industry, they're actually encouraging this industry through a series of tax breaks, subsidies and other grants.

I think that it is just a warning. I would not want the US military to go into Mexico after the cartels, who are terrorists. The problem is that Mexican President Andres Manual Lopez Obrador (AMLO) is a do-nothing communist. AMLO does not want to fight the cartels but wants to hug them to try to win their friendship. Already, he has thrown Mexico into a recession with his communist ideas as people are afraid to invest in Mexico. The cartels control large areas of Mexico and the Mexican army must be exhausted from years of battle with them. I remember about 4 or 5 years ago the cartels shot down a Mexican army helicopter. The cartels have cut the pipelines of Mexican refineries and are stealing gasoline big time with impunity. The cartel slogan is silver or lead, meaning money or a bullet, so most take the bribe.

The attack on the Mormons in Mexico is surprising in that the Mormons are somewhat armed. However, Mexico in general has strict gun control and only the rich have guns. In the Mexican state of Michoacán recently a medical doctor led a vigilante group against the cartels because the common people were being massacred just like in Chicago. He was successful for a few weeks but he eventually was arrested and sent to prison for having guns. His group was infiltrated by various small cartels. Along came the Mexican federal government and deputized a lot of people they knew nothing about and made them Rurales, or rural police. They were given a uniform shirt and a small stipend and permission to carry guns. Most of them were cartel members that the federales knew nothing about. A documentary was made called "Cartel Land." Indianapolis has many people from Michoacán here even though Indianapolis is so far from southern Mexico. In Michoacán they make meth by the 55 gallon drum for export to the USA. Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, is considered the most dangerous city in the world.

    Build the wall.

I apologize I misunderstood you. I usually don’t think of Fentanyl as an opioid. China is a major problem and I would be glad to land a surprise missile strike at a fentanyl factory if it would help. But to be honest, we started that problem with our prescription drugs by later withdrawing the addictive prescriptions and leaving our people to fend for themselves.

‘The Chinese fentanyl traffickers aren’t walking around the America murdering people. The Mexican Cartels are. Violence makes a big difference. Chinese sellers are not trying to terrorize anyone, they are just making a dishonest buck. The Mexican Cartels are terrorizing policemen’ into not doing their jobs, citizens into looking the other way, businessmen into cooperation.

The Mexican Cartels create actual terror! Someone choosing to kill themselves with fentanyl because our government allowed drug companies to peddle overpriced poison is not terrorism.

Different circumstances calls for different measures, but, yeah, maybe, 20,000+ dead USA citizens every year is cause for action.

That said, 90-94% of Cocaine, Heroin and Fentanyl-laced Heroin comes through the border managed by the Cartels who buy the Fentanyl from China. 4-6% of the Fentanyl comes direct as in through the mail, although they don't know about how all the stuff gets here. But China is definitely a big problem selling the pure Fentanyl for a very low cost which can be turned around at huge profits, like $3,000 into 1.5M once the Cartel processes it.

The Mexican economy would probably crash without the Cartel drug profits wherein China probably wouldn't feel it so serious sanctions would get China's attention quickly and China has the means to effectively deal with the problem within their country.

Mexico already is in recession as no one trusts the communist AMLO. All of Latin America is a dumpster fire.

Yeah, I would expect that I'd have a couple pretty good stories to tell if back in the day I were to have gone across the border to take down Pancho Villa! [IMG]
