Did Anyone See MSNBC Last Night

Did anyone catch MSNBC's coverage of President Bush's farewell address last night? I did and I was shocked. Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann did not waste any time attacking our President. In my opinion their behavior proved that they are not journalists. Like Sean Hannity, Olbermann and Matthews have proven they are little more than partisan hacks. MSNBC should fire both of them or, at the very least, not allow them to cover news stories.

The Bush administration has been a mixed bag. On the positive side his response to 9/11 was perfect, we have not been attacked since 9/11 despite many predictions, he limited embryonic stem cell research, his surge effort in Iraq has been a success, and his transfer to Mr. Obama has been what I except from our government leaders. On the down side he went to war in Iraq without enough troops, he allowed Iraq to fall into civil war for a time, he did not finish the job in Afghanistan, and he did not do enough to end the holocaust of abortion.

So Bush has a mixed record. Some good, some bad. However it will take years for historians to began to understand the long-term impact of the Bush administration. Men like Matthews, Olbermann, and Hannity only defeat themselves when they seek to verbally destroy our leaders. We should support our leaders, agree with them when we can, disagree with them when we must. But we should always pray for them, for our nation, and for the success of both. As Mr. Obama takes power that is what I am doing. I pray for his success in office and that he would avoid fulfilling some of his campaign promises. I will pray for his success as President, agree and support him when I can, and strongly disagree with him when I must. I did that with Bush and I will do that with every person who is President during my lifetime.

It concerns me that the majority of people I come in contact with seem to give the impression that they are hopping our president elect will fail, not by their actual words but by their innuendos and flipant remarks. I hope he is the best president we have ever had. We certainly could use one.

I hope he is a good President, as well, not just necessarily as "successful" one, that can get pretty much whatever he wants accomplished in Congress. (There is a difference.)

The standard for my lifetime, for best President, as in fulfilling the demands for the office set by the Constitution, and not attempting to remake the entire country into his own personal image of what it should be, but merely be "the Chief Executive" and the Commander-in-Chief.










Did he make all the right choices, within his area of purview?

No, of course not. [This one, linked below, in retrospect, IMO, turned out the be the worst, (overall all though not in every single issue to come before him, I will grant), and has been sitting on the Supreme Court of the United States, for more than 33 years.] Only a very small handful of justices have sat longer, including the longest serving Justice, whom he followed, Justice William O. Douglas and he has sat alongside two of the other 8 longer serving justices, plus another who sat for 30 years on the Court.

But neither did President Gerald Rudolph (Jerry) Ford, Jr. attempt to effectively 'enact' legislation from the Oval Office, either!

And that first and foremost gets a giant "THUMBS UP!" from me, every single time!

As I was editing this, I noticed that someone below said the NBC had lost all creditability, with him or her, a long time ago - didn't pay attention to who said it, and don't want to let that affect my judgment and comments about it in any manner, so I will not look back to see who said it.

I tend to agree, but the MSNBC arm can single-handedly (no pun intended) make the rest of - OK, so I will now take the opportunity to make an intended pun, give a large LEFT-handed compliment to the rest of NBC.

Depends...I certainly hope he fails at pushing his socialist agenda. But I doubt it. I hope he fails to set the stage for more unborn children to be slaughtered at the alter of socialism. But I doubt it. Based on his campaign promises there is no possibility that he will be the best President we have ever had. It just will not happen.

MSNBC is my favorite news channel. My wife and I both watched some of Rachel Maddow's commentary on President Bush's speech. My wife and I agree that she was excellent. I think she has the best commentary show on MSNBC. :thumbs:

President Bush has been a failure as a president. I have no problem with commentators pointing that out when discussing his farewell speech.

Depends...I certainly hope he fails at pushing his socialist agenda. But I doubt it. I hope he fails to set the stage for more unborn children to be slaughtered at the alter of socialism. But I doubt it. Based on his campaign promises there is no possibility that he will be the best President we have ever had. It just will not happen.

==I liked MSNBC for a period of time, then they took a sharp left turn and my liking turned to dislike. I suppose I really don't have a favorite since I can't tolerate the game show host "feel" of FOX News (mainly in the morning) and the endless babbel of CNN's Wolfe Blitzer (the man gives me a headache). I do like Special Report on Fox and Lou Dobbs on CNN. MSBNC is ok during the day, but their primetime lineup smells (imo).

I don't mind commentators pointing out problems or issues, but Matthews and Olbermann crossed the line. In my opinion what they did was borderline unAmerican. Agree with him or not, like him or not, he is our President and we should not be gleefully looking for reasons to be crtical of him. We should support him where we can and be strongly critical when we must. But what I witnessed on MSNBC last night went too far in my opinion.

If I owned MSNBC I would fire Matthews and Olbermann, if I owned FOX I would fire Hannity, the morning crew, and all the anchor women who look like they just left the plastic surgery office. If I owned CNN I would fire Blitzer and Larry King. I dream of starting a new channel called "Real News". It would be something like News 14 Carolina. No commentary, no opinions, just real (ie...important) news. I don't have the resources to start such a channel but I would really love to see someone do it. They could even use the name I picked, "Real News" :laugh: .

I have no clue what all of that has to do when Ken's reply. I guess the spirit of Wolfe Blitzer has entered my fingers as I type !

Rachel Maddow is the reason I subscribed to Air America so I could hear her show online. My wife likes her radio show, too, and my wife is not into politics like I am.

In the United States there is nothing unAmerican about criticizing a public official regardless of how far one takes it(short of an act of treason), imo.

All presidents fail in some areas and succeed in others. They can not please all people at all times, and they aren't supose to, that isn't their job. Bush is a president who stood up to bullies with the information given him, instead of backing down and allowibng more bullies to kill more americans, but there are people who prefered a president who would allow, approve and make laws to ensure even more baby murders then we now have.

some people are blinded by the world when the standard for a good president is murdering babies and socialism, if scripture were the standard a christian looked through then they could not vote for a man like this.

Except for one "honest" terrorist and a couple of wack jobs like the "shoe bomber" there is no evidence that anyone is capable of another large scale attack.

BinLaden should be nominated for the man of the century for producing the cheapest and quickest world war in the history of the world. In a couple of hours he killed a few thousand people and destroyed the economy and spirit of the greatest country in history.

Ken, I agree there is nothing unAmerican about free speach.... but there is something about the difference of being polite and classy, or appropriate for the times, and being a dirty ugly American who values one's own agendas which includes past bitterness instead of recognizing the time to exercise grace and defer to a party who is no longer in the contest.

What??? This war is hardly a "world war." Very few countries are involved, which was a big complaint ... that Bush did not have international support, and you can't change horses now in midstream. Furthermore, it involves a relatively tiny part of land, as opposed to real world wars. Furthermore, it didn't destroy the economy and the spirit of America. It fired America up. What destroyed the economy was completely different, and what destroyed the spirit (if it has been destroyed) was mismanagement by those in charge and stupid foolishness by those who wished to detract from those who were in charge. You can couch it in patriotism if you like, but it was destructive to have that type of vitriolic discussion going on.

What we learned was that few on the left are able to have a civil conversation about issues that they disagree about. We have seen it over and over again here, as well as in the public square. The attacks of people like Olbermann are not intelligent, not constructive, and not patriotic. They are simply stupid.

I don't pollute my mind with the leftist's at MSNBC or any of the other big ones... I will occasionally tune in to get my reality check, but that's all....
