Interpret Scripture literally?

“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.” Galatians 3:16

As we see in Galatians 3, entire doctrines hangs upon a single 'S'. The doctrines of Christology and Soteriology depend upon whether one single word is plural or singular.

"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”

-- Proverbs 30:5
