Actually, I lived in New Jersey for about twenty years. He's right. It's very liberal.

How is that speaking from ignorance? The NE is a hotbed of all things liberal much like California.

Think of the wildest, craziest, immoral thing you could imagine, and there's probably a law in support of it in California and the Northeast.

Besides I've spent enough time in the area to know that it is as dead spiritually as Europe.

Thought you'd enjoy this. The first year after my husband and I were married I had to give money to my dad so he could buy the 21yr Glenlivet that I gave my hubby for his birthday because I was only 20. I'd be lying if I didn't say I think he enjoyed the scotch better knowing it was older than his wife.

So knowing the destructive nature of this drug in our communities and how in so many venues of American culture it appears to be expected that folks drink and get buzzed, is it wise for Christians---the ones who are supposed to be set apart---to take part in it?

If you watch just about anything on tv or the movies, drinking excessively and in moderation are kinda glorified and made to seem to be somewhat cool---the right of passage thing that everyone who likes to have fun does.

The excessive drinking has been normalized almost as much as the heterosexual lust and fornication.

It just seems ODD that Christians no longer seem to much mind the association.

You've got a point here, I was born and raised in the South, but have spent the last 30 years in the Northeast. It is very different. New England especially is Catholic, I would say Catholics outnumber Protestants 10 to 1 at least.

Catholics are big on drinking, they see nothing wrong with it at all. But then, they hardly see anything wrong with anything, everything goes.

Folks here are extremely liberal when it comes to politics. Here in Connecticut the Democrats have been in control for decades. The people constantly complain about high taxes, and yet keep electing the same people over and over again.

    Stupid is as stupid does.

Now the puzzle is coming in place. Living in New England (Sodom) with a Catholic back ground.

    Very Sad...

EWF...You, sir,..whether you can't (or won't) see or acknowledge it, are on a path that (potentially) can, and maybe will lead to destruction and great personal loss in your life. I know, on THIS Board, I will probably get hammered (NO pun intended considering the subject of this thread) for saying what I really think about this but ALL the people I have ever met in my life who might be in agreement with the kind of statement you have made above have been lost pagans and unsaved, ungodly people (some of them members of my own family) who cared nothing for the Lord or the things of God. Some of them are even DEAD today because of things related to alcohol. I will pray for you.:tear:

For the record, as one who used to drink quite frequently before I got right with the Lord....if you don't ever take the first drink you never have to worry about whether that "vice" will bite you. I now drink ALL I WANT. The thing is...the Lord took all my desire for it away and I now want NONE. For that I am thankful.

Who are you talking about? I was NEVER a Catholic.

And I'm going to tell you something, Calvinists are nothing but reformed Catholics. You have far more in common with Catholics than me.

You are mistaken & you are projecting your bad experiences on me. Im 56 YO & have been drinking socially & moderately since I was 16 without any problems. Just because you had problems with alcohol doesnt mean I do.

If I had you in mind I would have attached your quote. It was a general observation from the previous post. I could care less what you think about Calvinist.
