It is a great resource. I take my daughter there all the time for school projects etc. It is good to teach your kids how to research various subjects.

I wish our library offered amnesty. Jeanne is currently on a payment plan to pay off $170 in fines. She checked out so many books she forgot what all she had and they got buried with a bunch of my books so they didn't get taken back for about 6 months.

I go in cycles of how much I use the library. Right now every couple of weeks to check out smome books to read. I am currently being cheap. Normally I like to buy books, because you never know when you want to read them again. Working in a book store makes this a dangerous habit.

Doesn't your library send overdue notices in the mail? We do here in Virginia, a week late a notice goes out telling you what is overdue, where to go, etc. to make things right.

Yes they do. I saw one and had gotten the books returned, I didn't know she had all these others out. I guess Jeanne got the mail on the days the other came and forgot to tell me or thought they were junk mail and threw them away. With her illness she dosn't always remember everything, or understand the improtance of it.

We live in a town of 16,000 and we have a very extensive library. It has branched out into two buildings now.

Brent (grandson) and I visit the library every two weeks. I usually check out two books and Brent gets from one - five (depending on the size).

Hubby goes about once a month, but then he always brings home a tome and I have to get it renewed for him after two weeks!

We have a FREE DAY, once a year too, where all late fees are waived. They just want the books back.

Bill: Maybe if you explained about Jeanne's illness, the library would forgive your debt - since they have the books back. It never hurts to try...

We have a tiny library and Nick owns a lot of books. We live near a Scholastic Warehouse and they have wonderful sales several times a year. We haven't been to the library in a year or so.
