So far, the results are as follows:

40% are not anti-abortion, but fear voicing it.
80% don't have a problem with evolution, but fear voicing it.
60% don't have a problem with Catholicism, but fear voicing it.
40% don't have a problem with infant baptism, but fear voicing it.
80% don't believe the Flood was a worldwide event, but fear voicing it.

Question: are their fears of voicing their views valid? As I pointed out earlier, I happen to think so.

Your percentages about blew me away, Johnv, until I looked at the number of votes.

I didn't vote in the poll since none of the issues are sensitive ones for me. There are other areas I generally avoid, however, Calvinism vs Arminianism being one of those. I also tend to stay clear of KJVO discussions, although I am very interested in the subject of Bible translation. In my opinion, the more emotional the debates are, the less likely it is that anything productive will come out of them.

Didi I really neglect to post the number of respondents? I didn, didn't I? Dorry about that. Wasn't my intent. [IMG]
Good point. I should have included those as well: Calvinism/Arminianism and KJVOism. Perhaps one on the different forms of end times millenialism.

I can believe the evolution results. I know Baptists who tell me they know creationism is wrong, but when preachers start up in Church, they just stay quiet to keep the peace.

And that's probably a good idea. You won't go to hell for being a creationist, but disrupting a church over a side issue is probably not a good thing.

On the other hand, a lot of people who might otherwise come to God might be lost because some person convinces them that creationism is a Christian doctrine.

John, I don't think "fear" is the correct word. There are some issues on which a certain opinion will lead to a food fight frenzy. That's fine for inveterate arguers but does little for a civil discussion.

I might add that there are certain views in that list that if they were espoused here, could get you banned under the rules. Perhaps there is some fear in some of that.

Which one of those positions would call for banning? What rule would they violate?

I was thinking of rule #2 which I believe was created after a whole bunch of people were banned some time ago. I was thinking abortion was one of those topics, but now that I go back and look at it, I realize that I was wrong. Although, I do vaguely remember at least one member being banned not too long ago for espousing a pro-abortion POV on the board. He also espoused many other liberal POV's such as pro gay rights, etc...

Sorry if I mis-spoke.

The author of this poll should work for some of the pollsters or junk scientists!

You can get any answer you want by asking questions with only certain choices for answers. The world is flooded with such opinion polls and even "scientific" studies.

However, 200% of nothing is still nothing and 50% off 200% the price is still full price!

God puts life into humans at the moment of conception. No one has a "right" to end it for their convince.

God created the heavens and earth and everything in them. God created mankind in a distinct event of that process as a superior creature to all others previously created by Him.

Catholics believe what they believe. Baptists believe what we believe and should not compromise.

Some believe in infant baptism. We Baptists do not and should not compromise.

The flood really happened and wiped out all of God's living creatures save those secure in Noah's ark.

God did not create homosexuality! Mankind perverted God's creation and through our sinful nature engages in such behavior.

We should, however, be careful not to condemn the souls of others who believe differently - or not at all - even as we stand firm in our own beliefs that we know God desires us to affirm and live by.

Huh? I was asking about peoples' fear of posting, based on specific topic. The poll in no way attempts to support or refute the topics listed. Perhaps reading the poll without an agenda would be of help to you.

For the record, the poll does not address my personal views. I picked the topics based on the frequency in which I see them on the board.

Really?

Quite a coincidence, then, that the only people who have to "fear" the "bad guys" are those who share your positions, or positions that you lean toward more than the average poster.

</font>
Here are the "questions" you posted:

Explain to me how they could be answered in a way other than to could towards supporting abortion, evolution, etc. but being afraid to so state.

If I'm wrong (which is certainly possible) then I'll apologize. Otherwise, I'll stick with saying your poll should work very well for some of the pollsters or junk scientists who skew the questions for a desired answer. That's not intended as an offense but just an observation.

As I stated earlier, I was asking about peoples' fear of posting, based on specific topic. The poll in no way attempts to support or refute the topics listed. If I could do it over, I would have added the KJVO, non-Calvinism, and probably alcohol consumption. As RSR pointed out in a previous post, there are some issues on which a certain opinion will lead to a food fight frenzy, resulting in little, if any, fruit being produced by the discussion.

The post was promoted by a pm with which a person stated that he was afraid to post his opinion about something, out of fear of getting his salvation judged, being called a nonbeliever, etc. All we need to to is look at any controversial post and see that there is plenty of this, despite the best efforts of the moderators.

</font>
Okay, but you still haven't explained how the poll "questions" could be answered any way except in the affirmative. What choice would a person select if they did not agree statement made by the "question"?

I stated earlier that I should have put a "none of the above" selection on. It had not occurred to me that a non-voting person would be unable to see the results.
