Another Calvinist Methodist group: the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion led by Selina Hastings. George Whitefield served under her.

That’s pretty much how they came into being, Whitefield went to the collierys and preached to coal miners.

Steve... I especially love his gleaning series but I think you have to have a certain mindset to follow Pink as he writes in types and shadows... Not all like that style of writing... Those who want to check him out, he is online in pdf format... As I always say Pink makes you think!... Brother Glen:)

They do! I love these men!!! They have brought me the greatest gift. They have brought me the sweetest honey. They have brought me the gospel of Christ!

That is in sharp contrast to the legalism and moralism I got in every church I attended for 25 years. These men, and those like them, saved my life!

:D It was Christ that saved your life...these men (with the help of the Holy Spirit) merely kept you on the path. How about Spurgeon, How bout Murray, Pink, etc. Keep reading and do it in conjunction with Sacred Scripture.:Thumbsup

I hear you my brother, heard Sovereign Grace since the age of seven, and that was sixty-four years ago... I'm not talking about what you need to do to get it, but who got it for you... I heard a minister start drifting into a social gospel one time and an elderly sister stood up and said preach Jesus or sit down... I know what that sister is talking about, I want to hear the Gospel not some watered down variety... I know about legalism and moralism... In the words of the old sister... PREACH JESUS!... OR SIT DOWN!... Brother Glen:Biggrin

If only men standing in pulpits, representing God, would preach just that. If only men would, as the apostle Paul, "preach Christ and Him crucified", i.e., "the gospel".

Isn’t that their jobs though? Then the other side of this is to disiple and prepare us to take the Word out to the world. Have you been prepared?

It is the job of a pastor to preach Christ and Him crucified; although, few do so. There are plenty of pep talks and life-skills training seminars, but far too few sermons.

The training we receive is not primarily to "take the Word out to the world but to build up the Church.

My above reply is proof that I have indeed been prepared.

And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. 14As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

You are building up the church when you go out and bring the Word into the world.

“Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15).

With these words, Jesus made it clear exactly what His disciples were to do – they were to spread His teachings in His name, preaching salvation unto the ends of the earth (Romans 10:18). If you consider yourself a “believer,” then you must consider yourself a disciple of Jesus – no less called and chosen than the very first 12 Apostles.

Yes. All Reformed. You would have to get to 6 on my list to hit a Baptist, who would be Mark Dever.

Words have meanings, and careful reading on your part avoids unnecessary typing on my part, so if you would not mind reading my post again and noticing the word," primarily".

Secondly, If I were to read Mark 16:15 (which was addressed to the 11) as you have I had run into a problem. Unless of course, you think that all Christians are called to be teachers and to baptize.

You see, not all people are called or instructed to "go to the ends of the Earth" as missionaries, teachers, and church leaders. Surely you read the text I posted. . . Maybe not. . .

Could have been a teacher, but not a pastor, as per the scriptures!
