Doctor tells patients that support Obama to look elsewhere

I wonder if he will have any patients left?

Maybe he's just playing the odds...that people who support Obamacare have a higher likelihood of not paying their bills.

Makes sense to me. There are larger numbers of Obama supporters than not who believe other people should subsidize their living.

Maybe the doc just wants patients whom he believes will pay their bills.

(Disclaimer: Of course there are many Obama supporters who pay their bills. I'm not suggesting otherwise...just that IMO one is more likely to find a higher percentage of moochers in the Obama camp than those who aren't in the Obama camp.)

a lot if he were here.

they already want the governement to pay it for them so they don't have too, so you may be right.

Nice that he has so many patients that he can turn away paying business. Good businessmen (and women) do not mix their politics with their livelihood.

I believe the point is that they are not paying customers!

At our taxi business, we do a lot of Medicaid. If we are sent to a house, wait 10 or 15 minutes, then they decide not to go - the company and the driver get shafted - as Medicaid will not pay us for a no-show. and it is not that uncommon. Once I went about 15 miles (20 min or so) just to end up with a no-show. So by the time I got back to the city, I had wasted on hour. Since I was on commission, I made zero dollars for that trip. And like waitresses, we depend on tips. But we know that 99% of Medicaid "customers" never tip. (though one did steal my cell phone :tear: )

No, we would never turn away a good paying customer, but providing a service and not be paid - we can do without! :saint:

Standing on your personal beliefs and morals is more important to some than business. Of course, I would expect you to understand that.

So how does a futile display of turning away paying customers make one political bit of change?

How does the futile act of having a march, or picketing, or writing your congressman make one political bit of change? They are all forms of expressing displeasure with policy or policy makers. Just because you don't like the method doesn't mean it's not valid. His method sure has worked, he's garnered national attention.

Actions like this only serve to inflame the issue. I believe his action is inappropriate and possibly unethical. Physicians are free to engage in political speech, but it is highly inappropriate to make statements telling patients to leave because of their political beliefs. The medical profession has a higher calling than even to suggest that treatment may differ depending on political beliefs.

Having knowledge of his general location and the population there.... and his specialty.... he'll have no problems having patients. The political climate in that area is quite balanced so its unlikely a boycott would have the effect that the offended parties might attempt. He is mostly dependent, in a specialty practice, on referrals. Many doctors, sympathetic to his position, may be all the more likely to refer to him ....especially if his reputation in his work is good. But a urologist may also accept people 'self referred' if it his choice.

I say this doctor doing an interview on TV last night.

He doesn't turn anyone away.

He has a little hand made sign on the door - but he says that his patients just read it and walk in the door anyway.

It's more of a conversation piece.

It seems like no one has a sense of humor anymore.

IMO too much is being made of this.

I agree.

I also believe its within the doctor's rights to inform others as he pleases.....
....and if it would have made a difference to them to be informed later...
why not better to be informed upfront.

However, we know that if it had been the other way around..... chances are very little would've been said nationally. Locally it might have gotten a little attention... as curiosity and news filler, but not nationally.

Does anyone else know of any other Urologist making national headlines today.

I predict his business increases...

This was a genius advertising move...

Kudos to the Doc!

I wish more Doc would stand up to Obamacare, and the Demoncrats!

Just googled Urologist... guess who name showed up!

Personally, I think a better sign would have been the one with Calvin peeing on a Donkey!...

The only move I can think of that would generate more, would be to rename his practice...
