Or is it to be seen as 'eternal life while on probation?"

    Can you restate the question?

I am not catching your meaning.

Do you mean as opposed to "once saved always saved"?

does a Catholic KNOW they have been saved, that there is no doubt that Heaven will be theirs once passed away?

or is it they are not really confident, as have to make sure have done enough 'co operating' with god thru the Sacramental means of grace in order to maintain their eternal life in Christ?

Yes, as long as they remain in Jesus. Stay connected to the vine.

Ask any Catholic if he/she KNOWS they will go to heaven when they die. The answer is usually "I don't know" or "I'm not sure". Catholics teach that there is a mythical place called "purgatory" where they will be "purged" before they can enter heaven. IOW, the blood of Christ was not sufficient to cleanse them from ALL sin.
Catholics teach a "works" salvation and that's why they need to be "purged" in that mythical place called purgatory!

There is NO assurance of heaven in the teaching of "works" salvation!

Ok, then this is a "once saved always saved" discussion.

    Heard it too many times.

Don't care to do it again.
