Double Snell Rig huge strength, high catch

    Whose running the double snell rig? I’m finding it really strong and increases catch rates.

    Where you fishing? All saltwater?

    I've snelled some hooks before and agree the rig does seem to hook fish better. Never double snelled but have used multiple hooks for crappie and white bass.

    Western Australia salt water. Use them on heavyish handlines up to 150Lb mono. Heavier than that I have to use the Thumb knot or Nail knot, which aren’t bad. Thumb knot is much easier to tie however.

    Try the double snell with strip or fillet bait, hook protruding either side,top and bottom of the bait, it’s effective.

    A former co-worker (we're both retired now) would tie huge tandem-hook flies to imitate 8-10" alewives and caught stripers 25+ pounds with them in the Kennebec estuary in Augusta.

    Use the circle hooks on reef because they doesn’t get snagged, J hooks get snagged on me easily however

    I'm a Kentucky River rat, fished it all my life, mostly trotline, drifting, limbline, casting the bank for bait. Many memories...:)

    Over the years I gravitated to using only circle hooks on trot and limb lines in order to avoid dead, gut hooked fish.

    Lol, you're a knot guy aren't you? I like them too, I've a book on knots and nets. I once made major repairs on a large hoop net that was to be discarded from the instructions in that book.

    No, I don't use dropper loops. Snap-on swivels are what I use. It's state of the art and makes life simple out on the water.

    Well so long as crocs and sharks don’t muck things up grabbing your catch, it’s hopeless here running long lines, the buggers rip everything to shreds. And don’t even talk about Rays running off proudly with your whole set, stupid things.

    Run a cheap mono trot out and it’s no biggy if it’s torn to cactus, but run a clipnswivel rig with monowire trace and you will be out of pocket 90% of the time. Sounds really civilised your set up, you’re really blessed mate.
    It’s all toothy critters here mostly, even heavy wire trace is bit through clean.

    That’s why we pull things in as fast as possible before something grabs it.

    Crocs, sharks, rays, lol, just another relaxing day of fishing....

    Muskies and gars are our toothy critters that can wreak havoc on set lines, and gars are big time bait stealers also.
