Dozens Found Dead at New Orleans Hospital

NEW ORLEANS - The bodies of more than 40 mostly elderly patients were found in a flooded-out hospital in the biggest known cluster of corpses to be discovered so far in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans.

The exact circumstances under which they died were unclear, with at least one hospital official saying Monday at least a few of the patients were dead before the storm, and another saying the rising temperature in the hospital afterward likely contributed to some of the deaths.

Patients put down

DOCTORS working in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans killed critically ill patients rather than leave them to die in agony as they evacuated.

With gangs of rapists and looters rampaging through wards in the flooded city, senior doctors took the harrowing decision to give massive overdoses of morphine to those they believed could not make it out alive.

One New Orleans doctor told how she "prayed for God to have mercy on her soul" after she ignored every tenet of medical ethics and ended the lives of patients she had earlier fought to save.

They should have been evacuated before the storm hit. The mayor failed the ones that needed him most.

Yet another good reason not to rebuild this rotten cesspool of a city...corrupt local government which left school buses parked in a bus yard instead of taking care of its own citizens...and then leaving the doctors to murder their patients instead of allowing them to drown in pain and agony.

No it isn't. But, we certainly haven't left people behind to die when there was something we could do in a disaster. The local government failed their people down there. We have a government who plans for possible disasters, and takes every concievable step they can to save people's lives.

These doctors must be in agony, I have sympathy for them. I have had to watch several close relatives die a slow death from terminal disease and it never crossed my mind to give them a lethal dose of medicine. But then again I was never in such an out of control, and catastrophic situation. If it was my mother and I could not take her with me I am not sure what I would have done, even though I know that murder is a sin and A crime.

I doubt this very much. If this is the case I know I would do everything in my power to jerk those offenders license to practice medicine. God puts a high enough value on those old, infirmed peoples lives to have sent the Christ to die a horrible death for each and every one, and if the Christian community misses the boat on that, we should be ashamed.

But again, I doubt the whole story.

This was an exceptional case. I don't think I can fault the doctors on this, if it is true.

Should you leave critically ill patients to die horrible deaths, either through drowning, or from the extreme heat, or from murderers and rapists raoming the streets, or from lack of electricity to power the machines that were sustaing their lives, or should you be merciful and pump them full of morphine to drift off without such a horrible demise?

If I was faced with a similar situation, of either facing a brutal, torturous death, I might just do the same.

We should not be overly tough on these doctors because none of us have been faced with the same situation.

In the old west, if you were gut shot, you knew you were going to die, so you either shot yourself or had a buddy do it. This seems like a similar situation.

In times of crisis, we are faced with unusually tough decisons that we would not normally face. Just like allowing people to rob a store in order to get food and water. Normally, we would prosecute such people, but we let it pass because of the widespread circumstances. I think this should be looked at in the same way.

If my grandma was in that hospital in that situation, I would be thankful that the doctors had made the decision they did, and then I would go after the mayor and the hospital administration for not evacuating the patients and forcing the doctors to make such a decision.

Not me. I would not presume on the sovereignty of God Allmighty, in fact I would be sore afraid to have that opinion. But that's me.

Euthanasia is illegal in Louisiana and the doctors spoke only on condition on anonymity.
IF that news is correct, then we have:

Obstruction of justice, murder, conspiracy ...

I say give the doctors a lethal injection ...

I am not sure we can do much of anythin seeing as the Daily Telegraph is from Australia, I think. the "au" at the end of their web address leads me to think so anyway.

Uh, guys, last I knew, St. Bernard Parish was NOT part of N.O. Does no one understand that the flood waters came up so quickly AFTER the hurricane passed that people just did not have time to evacuate as they "normally" would. But, hey, let's all move to Arkansas. It must truly be heaven on earth. well, except for the arrogance. Perhaps one day, joseph, you will quit your sniping long enough to tell us what YOU have done in the past to share the gospel with the inhabitants of the "cesspool".

I don't live in NO...but I have sent my monry to the CP to support Seminaries, Churches and missionaries in NO. As for my own area, I have, well, shared the Gospel with the lost. What else would you like for me to do?

As a nurse I hope I will never be in such a situation.
I am sure that doctors who did not care for the patients were not working there under these circumstances. They would have left.
This was stress pure. It is terrible to be in such a situation and feel totally helpless and powerless.
Maybe they would make different decisions now,
but they did what they thought was best in that moment.
I am not going to blame them, even if these decisions were wrong. They were there, stayed there, while I was comfortable and just watching from far.

Personally I have a strong fear of drowning. Maybe some kind of early childhood memory? I would prefer morphin. But that is just me.
