Way to avoid answering the question. There is nothing about those who disobey, or "wine of wrath" in Isaiah 25:6. Want to try again?

The Bible doesn't say "God's new wine"...it's says the well aged wine (wine on the lees for the KJV'ers).

Christ said the wine we will drink in His Kingdom will be new wine, not well aged wine.

    Try again

I forget sometimes our bodies are to be resurrected, and revert back to my former teachings. Yes, the best wine is the well aged vintage. I doubt it will have any intoxicating effects though

Go ahead and laugh. God's Word already said I would be mocked and scorned for preaching the Gospel. But I have the promise of a great reward for preaching the truth, so your mockery of my name and the Word of God has no effect on me but to further affirm that I am preaching the truth.

Rubbish! Nowhere in the Bible does it prohibit the drinking of alcohol, just getting drunk. Jesus Himself drank - but of course like the Pharisees you're clearly more righteous than Him, so you abstain.

Nowhere in the Scriptures can one find even one instance of Jesus drinking alcohol. We do know the Pharisees accused Him of such as you are doing now... But He refuted their foolish accusations.

More balderdash - Matt 11:19 for starters.

You are allowing your own prejudices to cloud your interpretation of the Scriptures - unless you are saying that you are possessed of some kind of papal infallibility or personal hotline to God which other Christians don't have, in which case I would be glad to see evidence from you for such an astounding claim. Either that, or stop being intellectually dishonest about being the sole repository of God's truth.

We also find no instance of Jesus getting married or what comes with marriage. Should we now not get married?

The accusation wasn't merely of drinking wine but being an "oinopotēs", a drunkard.

    The Septuagint sheds light on the most accurate understanding of the word. Here oinopotēs is used in verse 20 and then defined in verse 21. As you will see our Lord in His Holy Scriptures defines the following;

    oinopotēs (winebibber)-drunkard
    righteous eaters of flesh-gluttons

So it was not merely the consumption of wine but drunkenness, the abuse of wine that our Lord was being accused of and this is not the first time a Prophet of God is accused of such. This time of course our Lord not just being a Prophet but The Prophet, the Son of God, God Himself, was being accused of being a drunkard AND a glutton, merely for associating with people who had a reputation for such dietary abuses. Hmmm...WWJD. Apparently all this "what about his testimony" thing might need reexamined.

This is not an argument for myself, whether I choose to use alcohol or not but rather a response to a legless argument against its use. There are better arguments but this one does not stand.

*I do call into question the claim the Bible never presents Christ drinking wine. But for the sake of argument I accept your claim and still that line of determination fails. Simply because our Lord did not do something does not make it forbidden for us as exampled by marriage.

I drink in moderation: I have a glass of wine (usually red but occasionally white) with my main meal each day for several reasons:-

    (a) the health benefits (tannins, anti-oxidants etc)

    (b) it would be for me if not a sin then extremely uncivilised not to

    Cheers!

Which is a lie, since the Bible "commands" no such thing.

    I'll drink to that :)!

Seriously though, that sounds like an awful lot of unnecessary self- drugging on a daily basis. Not that it's my business of course. But if it is also for prevention purposes, maybe you have already, but look into your medical history, & your parents medical history to see whether this warrants the use of drugs as prevention of certain diseases. You can certainly obtain anti-oxidants and tannins without increasing your risk for various diseases and depressing your body. Alcohol is a depressant.

If you are physically active 4-5 days a week, regular alcohol consumption decreases your energy level and strength. I know from experience. Just one glass of wine the day before really affects my physical and mental abilities when Mtn. Biking. I crash enough, don't need any more assistance.

If you attempted to stop drinking, you would notice how much more strength and stamina you have with workouts. There was a study years ago which ignited Doctors to recommend moderate drinking of red wine to avoid heart attacks. This may be true, but it is also true with certain types of grapes and processing. And antioxidants are more readily available now in capsuls.

Here are a few quotes & sources for this info-

"Though you would have to consume much more grape juice to get the same flavanoid benefits as wine, grapes are a healthier choice. They contain more fiber, and don't increase your risk of liver disease or cancer."

"But not every grape juice has the beneficial effect. It has to have a high level of polyphenols," Schini-Kerth cautioned. The amount of polyphenols in grape juice, as in red wine, depends on the type of grape used and how it is processed.'"

Pills such as pycnogenol contain antioxidants also, as I take them regularly each day. Or every other day sometimes.

Apparently you are not being truthful, webdog. The Bible does command abstinence.... especially of the red wine.

Matt Black said he drinks red wine... taboo according to Scripture

A careful study of Proverbs 23 in the original should free anyone of the bondage of the belief it is ok to drink in moderation. This chapter contains a number of "do nots" addressed to all humanity in the second person singular as are some of the Ten Commandments. They forbid us to do certain things such as removing old landmarks (stealing land), withholding correction from a child, envying sinners, being among winebibbers, despising our own mother when she is old and looking at a drink which in Hebrew transliterated is yayin ki yith'addam. The word yayin is generally translated wine in English Bibles. In this passage it is correctly translated wine. It is a beverage we must not look at lustfully. It is alcoholic wine. Yith'addam cannot (being hithpa'el) mean simply "when it is red." The following words are no doubt put in Holy Writ to distinguish the forbidden yayin from other yayin which is not forbidden.
This prohibition of looking at this sort of yayin establishes a principle, one to which all the rest of the Bible must conform if the Bible is in harmony with itself, which it certainly is.
We can no more look to other passages in the Bible, put our own interpretation on them, and say they negate Proverbs 23:31 than we can find some passage which we can twist to mean that we can despise our mothers when they are old and say that this negates verse 22 of the same chapter.
Someone who objects to taking Proverbs 23:31 in its plain sense has suggested that the entire book of Proverbs is given to us to make us think and contains no firm commands to be obeyed, but this is against II Timothy 3:16. If Proverbs gives a command, that command must be obeyed.
Another who objects to taking Prov. 23:31 as a command to all persons as individuals says it applies only to drunkards. His reason for doing that is that drunkards are mentioned, but drunkards and the ill effects of drinking are there to make clear what sort of yayin is prohibited, as there was nonalcoholic yayin as well as alcoholic. The idea of this objector is a very improper reason for seeking to avoid a clear command of God, which by reason of its place in the Bible is to be obeyed by all, not merely by drunkards.
That yayin in the Bible need not refer to an alcoholic drink is proved by Isaiah 16:10 and Jeremiah 48:33. Here the immediate product of treading grapes is called yayin, and yet everyone knows that the immediate product of treading grapes is called in modern (but not 17th century) English: grape juice.
This is all the evidence needed to affirm that wherever yayin is praised in the Bible it should be translated "grape juice," as for example when it is said that little children not fully weaned cry for it (Lam. 2:12) or when, in what may be the description of a harvest festival, fresh grape juice is being enjoyed by the happy harvesters and their friends and is called a gift of God from the earth to make glad the heart of man (Ps. 104:15).

So, let's all raise a glass to SFIC. He won't raise one himself!

    SFIC, Proverbs are not commands.

You may not like wine, but you sure enjoy your whine.

Keep on fooling yourself with that belief that proverbs are not commands...

Proverbs is a book of wisdom. It is wise to heed every bit of advice and every command in it.

And there are commands in it... whether you want to obey them or not, whether you want to believe them or not.

And for your information, I ain't whining. But I can say by the authority of God's Word that many who are in rebellion to Him when they disobey His Word will be the ones whining when they have to tell Him why they ignored His Word.
