[/FONT]LYNCHBURG - Apparently, mind games - however transparent - work.
Corwin Acker's 65-yard touchdown run and Matt Goff's 65-yard punt helped James Madison escape Liberty with a rain-soaked 24-10 win Saturday despite committing its first three turnovers of the year.
The Dukes, it seems, were tired of hearing hype about the Flames.
"Just all the yapping about, you know, ‘They're ready to beat you. That's all they care about. They want to beat you all,'" senior defensive end Arthur Moats said. "That's all we kept hearing all week."
All week long, JMU coach Mickey Matthews relayed to his Dukes tales of the buzz in Lynchburg, the big crowd Liberty expected and the "Beat JMU" T-shirt Flames coach Danny Rocco had worn.
The message: Don't overlook a highly motivated Liberty team.
