elementary school has banned tag

    An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will.

    "It causes a lot of conflict on the playground," said Cindy Fesgen, assistant principal of the Discovery Canyon Campus school.

    Running games are still allowed as long as students don't chase each other, she said.

    Fesgen said two parents complained to her about the ban but most parents and children didn't object.

    In 2005, two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in favor of alternatives with less physical contact. School officials said the move encouraged more students to play games and helped reduce playground squabbles. Maybe the ones that did not want to be chased should not have ran. This is stupid.

    While this may be new to this school (I don't know for sure because a link wasn't provided and I'm not going hunting today ;) ), this has been going on for a long time in public education. It is silly. The powers that be are afraid of so many things - way too many things.

    There was one year in the post. The two neighboring schools did something similar in 2005. It's now the end of 2007.

    These are elementary students? The majority of kids that age probably don't think "if I don't run, I won't get chased."

    Sorry about the link I had it copied do not know what happened. As far as being done before they said it has this is just the first time i have heard of it. I try to check the posts and not double post something but I did not go back 2 years.

    Sidenote to the moderator/admin staff:

    I know I've been told NOT (or is that KNOT?)
    to correct people's choice of like-sounding words.
    But this is humor at the expense of tinytim
    and well worth the exception.

    The worse cruelity I've seen done unknowningly
    was this.

    We were playing the Indians (a high school footbal
    team). The school I tought at was some Tigers.
    Anyway, there was a hall decorating contest of
    placards over the lockers & down the hall.
    A new American Indian person sat and looked
    at the sign I HATE INDIANS for awile and I think
    there were tears in his eyes (but it could have been
    ragweed season?).

    I didn't mean posted here. I meant it's happened in schools before. The 2005 date was stated in your original post.

    Let's play tag or Red Rover (another banned game) and have some real fun :D

    They've banned 'tag,' huh? I wonder what those folks would have thought if they had been on my school's playground when I was a kid, and seen some of my friends and I playing 'Cream the guy with the ball.' :laugh:

    I didn't know the above request had been made. Not that I make those corrections (I'm usually on the receiving end of them donchano)
