If we look to the Passover Lamb in the Old Testament, God gives us a glorious display of the infinite value of, as well, as the ABSOLUTE NECESSITY of all God's elect resting in God's Christ as "The Lord Our Righteousness"! Do you think God left it up to the natural born sons of Abraham to decide on their own WHAT should be offered to God as a means of "atonement" for this impossible situation? He instructed them very specifically in Exodus 12:1-11. Suppose some Jew only heard the words that concerned offering a lamb. What do you think would have been the results that night when the death angel passed through Israel? Or what if he had heard every word of Aaron and Moses, only to conclude in his own mind all that mattered was that he had a lamb to offer, therefore he just purchases a lamb right before the death angel was to descend? Or suppose he didn't think all those steps commanded by God were that critical? There is no doubt he would have offered a sacrifice, put blood on the "two side posts and the upper door post", ate it according to God's command, even being dressed properly with "shoes on his feet" and a "staff in his hand". But if he didn't follow the instructions concerning "the Lord's Passover", death would have been the sure result.

God has provided for His people, HIS PASSOVER, in the person of His "only begotten Son", the Lord Jesus Christ. As those Jews dared not to deviate from following every specific instruction concerning God's Passover, neither should we deviate from preaching every detail of the God sent Christ. God's Christ is not one who made salvation merely possible for all, BUT THE ONE WHO EFFECTIVELY REDEEMED ALL THOSE GIVEN TO HIM. Oh sinner, we must believe and call upon the name of the Lord, BUT NOT JUST ANY LORD. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"(Romans 10:13-15) Just as Israel was instructed by God's servants, Aaron and Moses, God's elect are instructed and pointed to the one True Christ. "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me."(John 12:32)

The very best display of the efficacy of the blood of the Passover lamb in the OT is with the 'Exodus Generation', the very generation for which it was originally sacrificed. Even after all the wickedness Israel had done in the wilderness after leaving Egypt (rejecting the gospel, unbelief, disobedience, murmuring, idolatry, fornication, rebellion, etc.), and even with Balaam wanting so badly to curse Israel, God made Balaam to declare:

He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob; Neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: Jehovah his God is with him, And the shout of a king is among them. Nu 23:21
(Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not reckon sin. Ro 4:8)
