Well, Nicole is getting a lot of attention and that is probably what she wanted.

Would she have been mentioned on the Baptist Board otherwise? :(

I was watching a martial arts kick boxing event when an athlete who was present and watching (but not participating) was asked what he thought of the bout used several expletives without the usual bleeps overlaid.

This reminds me- if a person has watched live sporting events for any period of time, you've probably heard words that you normally won't hear on regular T.V.

I can think of at least a couple of times (one basketball, one football) when someone was loudly & way too colorfully expressing themselves in close proximity to an open mike.

Has anyone else had this same experience?

You win the prize. That's exactly what they want and aren't we kind to give it to them.

I'm not a big fan of profanity (although I let loose a pretty good string of it last week when I got my hand caught in a winch) but, really, is the fact that some rich brat, on a show that nobody watched to begin with, used a couple of explitives really something to throw a hissy fit about?

When people do things like that, it make the case against them better then we ever could. What do we want to do? Show that profanity is wrong? We all know profanity is wrong, even those who use it. Do we want to show that she's more white trash than the people she spent the time with on the farm? Watch about two minutes of "E!" sometime.

This isn't someone that anyone looks up to. People recognize her for what she is.

As for her saying this on TV, it was at a live event. The producers who filmed this live event for TV simply didn't hit the "bleep" button in time and it went out over the air on the East Coast. That's all. No conspiracy. No tacit approval by the FCC.

Just let it go. Like I keep telling you, ignore them and they will go away.

You should watch a Phillies' game sometime.

Somebody over at Comcast got the bright idea to mic the dugout. Between Larry Bowa and Todd Pratt, it's not pretty. Sometimes, when Bo really gets going, even though the mics in the dugout are off, you can still hear him over the announcer's mics up in the booth.

I don't like profanity either and fortunately I have not been around people who use it in my presence.

But if one can read lips, the players and other people don't have to have mics to know what they are saying.

Also, sometimes children will use profanity to get a reaction from adults or they may not know what they are saying. I have simply said that is not a nice word to say and that usually settles it. No big deal about it.

That's why our Phils are so endearing! But perhaps Larry won't have so much to curse about this season. World Series, here we come!

Just like with the Phillies, Ken Hitchcock gets caught about once per game mouthing the words, "what the f***?"

Of course, given some of the officiating there, who can blame him?

I love those guys. Bo rocks and I'd have done just about anything to keep Pratty around. He was old and his knees were shot but it was so much fun when he got up to bat.

One home rum he hit last season, he looked like he was going to have to stop halfway between second and third for a beer and a smoke. God bless him, he made John Kruk look like Bruce Jenner.

I believe they've cut him loose but I'd love to see them bring him back in a coaching position.

If the trade rumors that are flying around WIP this morning are true, we may end up being the 500 lb gorilla of the National League.

I couldn't disagree more. Elevating these people to the point that what they say can generate this much outrage and the worship of celebrity is what is wrong with this country today.

Like I said, all you're doing is giving them what they want.

Then quit whining about some four letter word some tart said on TV and go reach them.

It was wrong but what do you do when a child throws a temper tantrum? Do you give them what they want or do you ignore them?

Channel surfing last night. Wife asked what was the "cartoon". It was South Park.

I said I'd only seen snippets and couldn't watch more than a minute because of the filth. So turned up the sound . . and three characters in 10 seconds used the precious name of my Savior in vain.

Muted it. Moved on to the next channel (Weather Channel; I'm old). Didn't say a word. Absolutely dumbstruck.

Guess a choice between the "f" word (crude anglo saxon) or taking my Lord's name in vain is not hard to make.

    Would prefer NEITHER!.

That is how we got here today. They will not go away they will just keep shoving it down our throats. We must stand while we can.

Dr Bob your point about using God's name in vain is also right. We need to let our voices be heard on that issue, also.

No kids and, no, of course I wouldn't want them exposed to this but there are a couple of problems with appealing to an emotional response.

The first is that, whether or not I want them to hear it, they are going to hear it. So the best thing I can do is teach them better manners than that and teach them to express themselves better than that. I can also tell them that the Bible teaches us that our words should be "as apples of gold", rather than profane.

I also don't want them to get the idea that we make profanity go away simply by silencing others or that, if you don't like something, the best way to overcome it is to take away somebody else's right to do it.

I believe that sets an equally bad example.
