Came across this today! It is an interesting read if nothing else! Still, could this happen here in the US of A?

What say you?

It is an interesting concept. We know that President's Lincoln and Wilson used their executive power to the maximum and beyond at times, to suspend the Bill of Rights on certain individuals. President Wilson had citizens imprisoned for publicly criticizing his handling of the war, without due process. Not a lot about the subject is written in history. No doubt with careful research there have been more Presidents try to exercise executive power based on an emergency situation.

Here is an interesting article on how President Obama might raise the debt ceiling October 17 without Congressional approval that to date has shown no sign of working.

Several of the things mentioned are using the federal reserve, minting new coins, selling US assets, and interpreting various parts of the Constitution in a certain way.

Focusing on your article itself, I have no idea if a President would get by with that or not. It is one thing to suppress the rights of individuals, it is another to declare an entire state of the United States invalid.

50 USC Ch. 13 used to allow the president to declare a state in "insurrection" and send the military to quell said uprising. However, Sections 201-204 of 50 USC Ch. 13 were repealed on August 10, 1956 and replaced with 10 USC Ch. 331, which specifically places authority for such action by a president under a prerequisite request from the governor of the afflicted state for federal intervention.

Hence, not only is this ridiculous story just what C4K called it ...

Far fetched, fanciful, farcical fiction.

... it isn't even possible under current law. People need to research stuff before they post it.

Yes! You probably have noticed, as I have, that one could spend a good part of a day simply debunking some of the stuff that people post on BB. After a while though, you get a little tired of the job.
