Federal authorities charge white ‘knockout’ suspect with hate crime

Federal authorities said Thursday they have arrested and charged a Texas man in connection with the “knockout game,” accusing him of a hate crime for targeting a black man for a vicious street attack.
Most knockout victims that have appeared in news reports have been white, but the Justice Department said in this instance the victim was a 79-year-old black man, and stepped in with federal charges.

“Suspected crimes of this nature will simply not be tolerated,” said Kenneth Magidson, the U.S. attorney for the southern district of Texas. “Evidence of hate crimes will be vigorously investigated and prosecuted with the assistance of all our partners to the fullest extent of the law.”
The Justice Department said it filed a criminal complaint against 27-year-old Conrad Alvin Barrett on Tuesday and arrested him on Thursday.
According to Justice officials, Mr. Barrett recorded himself on his cellphone attacking the 79-year-old man, laughing and saying “Knockout” as he runs away.
The 79-year-old man had his jaw broken in the Nov. 24 attack.
“The plan is to see if I were to hit a black person, would this be nationally televised?” Mr. Barrett says in the video, according to the authorities.
Knockout, in which someone decides to attack a random victim and tries to knock him or her out with one punch, has been in the news after a spate of assaults in recent weeks.

The “game” has spawned a fierce debate since many of the reported victims have been white and their assailants have been black, but hate crimes charges have been all but non-existent.
Last month New York authorities did charge one person with a hate crime, saying the assailant targeted a Jewish man.

But THIS mess is viewed as justice? Pure foolishness.

I fear this is going to keep happening and folks are really gonna get heated.

How you gonna charge the white guy with a hate crime, but not charge the black people with a hate crime? Just beyond stupid. But the government seems to want a race war and will manipulate and maneuver to make it happen.

In Syracuse, the penalty was 18 months in jail. there was no mention of a hate crime.

I don't think I'd be any less dead if someone killed me because of my race vs wanting my money. Disregard for my life was the final factor.
Charge them with that and get 'em off the street.

The purpose of hate crime laws isn't justice. It's to make liberals feel good. Just like gun control laws aren't about stopping gun crime. Neither makes the faintest lick of intellectual sense. But since liberalism is an emotion based belief system, and emotions are sometimes illogical, liberals are often required to advocate nonsensical policies in order to generate their 'fix' of positive emotion. The only alternative is to abandon the belief system, which is possible but very difficult.

The "hate crime" rider on any felony is an attempt at thought control. It pretends to assess the thinking behind the crime and punish the defendant for thinking as he does. It's just the most obvious of Orwellian thinking among socialists in power today, and as Rev pointed out, not using the rider for black-on-white crime by using it in reverse? That's racism. Real racism, not the pretend stuff the civil rights industry tries to brand with the term.

I mean if you've got Blacks and Whites killing each other in the streets, it becomes real easy to enact legislation that "prohibits" certain things for our "own good".

But this is also why I believe God's people are not to take the bait and become too much a part of this back and forth left vs right, Republican vs Democrat, liberal vs Conservative ugliness which at it's core seems to be centered on latent issues of the love of money and skin color.

We can't be the lighthouse on the hill if we're mired in the mess.

Absolutely, our job is to pray to overcome their attempts and if not then refuse to be affected and fall pray to their hate inciting agenda.

This will be a challenge zaac when it come knocking at our literal door or the door of our church.

Yes very soon, pastors may have to be convicted of a hate crime and go to jail if and when they refuse to perform a same-gender "marriage".

Back to O/P: Funny (not ha-ha) how it is that the first white on black knockouter commits a hate crime but not the scores of the preceding non-white against whites. We are not as stupid as they think.

Its an illustration of how blinded those poor souls enslaved by the man of sin are indeed (where we were once).

The day is coming when there might be one, two, or three pairs, or just a single person sitting in the pews, who nobody in church knows, and people will be smiling and saying to themselves, "oh, goody. those visitors just walked in by themselves. no invite or anything. I hope they get 'saved' and go forward during the invitation".
Then you see them keep coming back, until one day the preacher feels led to preach what the Bible says about homosexuality, and you look and see the "visitors" seeming to get excited, but still no "profession of faith", because they'll be back soon, with their lawyers and cops and the preacher goes to jail for hate speech and hate crime.
