Fill the Swamp? Trump Reverses Hiring Freeze Executive Order

The Trump administration is lifting a federal hiring freeze as of Wednesday morning.

White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney announced the policy change in a briefing to reporters Tuesday.

Cautioning "this does not mean agencies will be free to hire willy-nilly," Mulvaney said the across-the-board hiring freeze the president imposed by executive order three days after taking office in January is being replaced with a "smarter plan, a more strategic plan, a more surgical plan."

I thought the swamp only meant the environs around DC. Senior executive service, high level appointees.

Same here. Though, a general hiring freeze was a good start. Now, I hope he has the information needed to target the freeze. It hit the VA rather hard.

Us too and we serve the US Navy's facilities engineering command. Increased requirements and workload without the people to staff it has been very stressful especially when just about everything is apparently tied to mission readiness And has flag officers asking

I can't believe I'm defending Trump, but a government-wide hiring freeze makes no sense; it's red meat, sure, but it's inefficient. Some jobs have to be filled. That's why the VA had to keep making exceptions to hire doctors and people to process claims.

A hiring freeze at the very beginning of an administration makes a lot of sense.

The new administration wants to prevent the out-going administration from filling positions with staff that don't agree with the new policies
After the new group sets up their leadership structure, then they can they can begin filling positions with their people.

President Trump is a business man, he seems to know how things work.
