Listened to an interview on the BBC news last night with a guy from the same regiment as Bergdahl. he gist of what he said is as follows: whilst the release in some way has brought closure for him, he wants to know why the guy wandered off in the first place and why his unit and others wasted six weeks - and a few lives - looking intensively for him. He and his colleagues in his regiment have carried a sense of guilt - wrongly - around for nearly five years now, he said, not helped by some parts of the media parroting the myth that Bergdahl had been 'left behind' on the battlefield by them. A court martial with a finding of desertion would bring proper closure for them all, even if the sentence was to treat his captivity as 'time served' (if indeed he was genuinely captive); I got the impression he didn't particularly want the guy punished, just wanted it confirmed legally that he has deserted and why he did what he did. It was a very measured and dignified response IMO.

The way I see it: if (as seems likely) it is shown that he did just wander off (ie: desert) with some hare-brained idea of 'walking to China or India' , then he did the wrong thing which cost lives and for which he should be legally held to account. It seems that Obama also did the wrong thing and thus should also be held legally to account.

Not only did the Little Marxist Dictator bypass Congress, he bypassed the best agencies for providing insight and advice he had available: the intelligence community. And this wasn't "urgent" because of Bergdahl's health, as the White House liars claimed -- it's been in the planning stages for four freakin' years!!!

Fox News: Administration bypassed intel community to pursue Bergdahl trade, shelved ransom plan

The Obama administration largely bypassed the intelligence community to green-light the risky swap of five Taliban leaders for American Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, officials tell Fox News, as new details emerge about concerns with the deal at the highest levels of President Obama's team.

A military intelligence source also confirmed to Fox News that a second option -- involving the payment of a cash ransom for Bergdahl's freedom -- was pursued as late as December 2013.

The source said the goal was to reach out to Pakistan leadership with direct ties to the Taliban, and float the possibility of trading cash, instead of prisoners, for Bergdahl. That option, though, was put "on hold" in December when it was made clear the administration intended to pursue a prisoner swap.

Intelligence officials confirmed to Fox News that the Bergdahl prisoner swap was then on an accelerated track, and no formal assessment of the entire intelligence community was conducted. This made the opportunity to push back against the transfer extremely limited.

Further, top officials including Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta were firmly against the proposed transfer in 2012 after it was first floated.

It is time Republicans or whoever will pursue it to get off their lazy posteriors and file impeachment proceedings. The LMD not only broke the law with Bergdahl, he has flirted with treason.

And here's the real kicker:

The Washington Post reports that Panetta and Clapper weren't the only ones who had misgivings about a prisoner trade after it first came up. According to an article on Wednesday, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also opposed the original terms of the prisoner exchange deal.

So Obama needed a distraction from the VA think. He thought this was going to be a grand moment for him and a great distraction. The latter is true just not the way he thought.

Whaaat!?

The ex-serviceman I listened to sounded pretty credible to me - and I've had plenty of experience back in the day when I did litigation, particularly criminal defence work, as to whether a client or witness was lying; this guy didn't sound like a liar. He was very measured, thoughtful, not vindictive (as I said, I don't think he wanted Bergdahl locked up if a court martial found him to have deserted, he just wanted a finding of desertion so that he and his colleagues could have proper closure), just wanted to know the truth as to what exactly Bergdahl did and why, and for justice to be served and Bergdahl (and others) held to account where necessary.

Free Beacon: State Dept. says Bergdahl knows circumstances of his capture better than squad mates

State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf engaged in a heated exchange Tuesday with a reporter over the circumstances surrounding Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl’s capture five years ago, saying she does not think his squad mates have the best idea of what happened when he disappeared.

When Fox News reporter Lucas Tomlinson asked, “Does the State Department consider Sergeant Bergdahl to be a deserter?” Harf replied, “The State Department — no, Lucas. Look, what we’ve said is we are going to learn the facts about what happened here.”

“He’s been in captivity, Lucas. I think he’s probably the person who knows best what happened on that night,” Harf said.

Tomlinson shot back, “Well, I think his squad mates have the best indication what happened that night.”

“I don’t think that that’s the case,” Harf responded.

There you have it. The State Department labels his squad mates liars. Either that or just plain ignorant. Either way, ...

... this administration thinks we're all idiots and will buy whatever they're selling. Unfortunately, half the country will. :BangHead:
