On Monday, June 14, 2021 we in the US will officially observe "Flag Day." This little known & oft times forgotten by those of us who live in the US (or came from it). To most, the day is just the first work day of the 3rd week of June. On June 14, 1777, the U.S. Congress officially adopted our flag. While the flag itself has undergone many changes in the more than 240 years since it was officially adopted, our flag symbolizes the country in which we live. The 13 red & white stripes represent our original 13 states. The blue canton filled with stars represent the 50 individual states that make up today's United States. A few weeks ago we observed Memorial Day, an observance of those who died defending our flag. For all of her faults & shortcomings, people all around the world see it not just something we wave at parades, but the symbol of hope & freedom that many people today could only wish they had what the Stars and Stripes represent---and to our enemies, a symbol to be burned in the hope that someday soon, the US will also be burned. No matter what your political sympathies may be, no matter what age you are, our US flag should be honored & well-kept not only on our various flag poles, but, more importantly....in our hearts. Join with me to say this: "God, Bless America! Stand beside her & guide her through the night with Your Light from above."
