My conception of a flat tax is an income tax only.

Hey don’t we get any credit for inspiration and motivation? When is the last time your accountant or lawyer did that for you?

Didn’t some Russian leader a while back say something along the lines of “We love Christians in Russia, they are the only ones still showing up to work sober.” I may be remembering that wrong but don’t preachers get some credit for the Christian “Work Ethic?”

Once the rapture occurs, it will become evident real quick the actual value of the Christian influence on society!

Christian influence is not the same as the economic contributions of ministers.

I'm not saying that we don't do anything, simply that we most likely do not help the GDP all that much.

We have plenty effect on the GDP, and it will be felt immediately after the rapture. Just in outstanding loans alone, untold billions of dollars, no longer available for mortgages, and car loans.

Again, not CHRISTIANS, but MINISTERS. Besides, the argument against the accountants, et. al., was that they could be more productive by finding another job.

Full-time ministers could probably produce more economically in other fields. I'm not saying they're useless. Economic matters are not the priority.

How can that be? When the "rapture" occurs this present earth and heavens will cease to exist.

I thought you didn't discuss end times prophecy anymore ?

    Just a jab ?

Well, my studies lead to another position, the rapture will greatly disrupt commerce, and general economic stability, but the world will get over it, for approximately 7 years.

Yep. It hard for me to just totally let premillennialists have the run of the place. :)

I have heard of the concept (I don't believe it, by the way!) that the rapture will be for ONLY THOSE CHRISTIANS that believe in the rapture; all others will have to endure the tribulation and be ushered into eternity at the 2nd coming.

Should this BE fact, (?) we'll see y'all after the rapture +7!

Incidentally, I'm not adament re: the rapture as I have seen scripture that can be interpreted to show otherwise, BUT, when all is taken in context, with a literal interpretation, my take is that this is BY FAR the most plausable scenario. Other options require too much "spiritualizing" of His word, IMNSHO, to be authentic.

However, should I be wrong, all I REQUEST is that I have the guts and faith to be true to Him regardless of the circumstances.

I'm admittedly confused about "end times" stuff. I'm not even sure I believe in a rapture. (Nor am I sure I disbelieve in one.) Could you recommend a source/book/thread/anything? Many thanks, KenH.

The flat tax is a bad idea. But it doesn't really matter, as it will never happen. If it does, that means you will see prices go up on everything.

Under a flat tax, my assumption is that the cost of goods and services would go down, reflecting the absence of the myriad hidden taxes. But I guess it depends on the tax percent added at the end. I'm not sure of this, only a thought.

And there's no way to avoid giving the tax man the use of our money all year, some of which to be given back in credits or whatever. This would apply to any new tax scheme.

Although I strongly disagree with you, this is a well-written response.
