    His release, surprisingly enough, came during the Bush administration, as he was turned over to Libya on September 28, 2007, after having been at Gitmo for over five years. Ambassador Chris Stevens noted in a communique in 2010 that Qumu and other detainees were supposedly being held in solitary confinement in Libya, so they could not recruit other prisoners sentenced under Libyan law. Now, however, we have now learned that he and others were released shortly after arriving in-country.
