Never have so many who have been helped so many times proven to be so ungrateful. With friends like this who needs enemies? 23% of French & 18% of germans are taking a personal stand to boycott american products. That is certainly thier right.I think I will execise my right to reciprocate and not by thier products.

Oh, great!!! Now I can't have bratwurst and french fries. Sheesh!!!

The next time someone complains that there aren't enough American products, I'll remind them that the French and Germans think differently.

Maybelline is French. Bill O'Reilly has been calling for a boycott on French products ever since they voted against us about Iraq, I think.

Here's the official boycott French web site:

On a positive note, we should see fewer and fewer american males dressing like fairies.

Wow! Huge percentages of foreigners in the boycott!

    23% and 18%!

Does that mean that 77% and 82% are NOT boycotting US goods?

Of course this is the point where the illegal, protectionist and unbusinesslike bar on steel imports which the US tried to impose could be raised ...

Well, here is a question for them: what American products were they buying in the first place?
    America doesn't really manufacture anything.

That is why I wanted a source for that info. It seems unlikely to me that we would boycott MacDonalds, american music, or Nike shoes!!!!

Afri-Cola ??? You think the French would stop drinking Coca-cola and buy Afri-Cola instead? That is absolute non-sense. Because someone writes an article to incite people to do that, honestly, does not mean that it should be taken seriously.

Produce a serious and recent article showing that the French are boycotting american products and then we will talk. In the mean time, please stop making accusations about France that you cannot support.

I think I remember, however, that the US wanted to boycott French products (remember the "french" fries affair) so the fact of the matter is (as Cheney would say) it is rather the other way round.

    This French citizen thanks you.

Happy Thanksgiving, C4K and all! Thanks be to our God and Savior Jesus Christ for his goodness and kindness toward us!!!

If Corinne is French and doesn't know about the boycott, it must not be a very widespread thing.

I have worked with numerous Germans. Our war policy does indeed look pretty silly to them. But the thing that is most notable is that they say thay the political war rhetoric reminds them of what they know of Germany in the '30's. I didn't prompt it out of them, but they knew that I would be open-minded enough to not hold it against them, so they spoke freely.

Morning PJ and Happy Thanksgiving back atcha [IMG]

That was my point from the start - 77% of the French and 82% of the Germans, even in this undocumented poll, are NOT boycotting American goods. And if they did - so what?

This seems to be just another example of American xenophobia.

Or bad information. But bad information is sometimes eagerly accepted if it reinforces an existing bias.

Tried to find some info on a french-speaking site. It looks like there were some boycot ideas in the air when the US went to war against Iraq, but these ideas were soon abandoned by most people because they were not only ridiculous, they were also short-term and did not fulfil the objective (to have an effect on the US economy).

Boycotting Coca-cola or MacDonald would not harm America, but would, paradox, harm France. Here is why: when a French person does not go to MacDonald, he harms the French businessman who bought the exploitation license from MacDonald. By avoiding the restaurant, the French consumer would not harm any american interest, but only French interests linked to the restaurant.

Same for Coca-Cola: the majority of Coke consumed in Europe is produced in..... DUNKERQUE (in the North of France). Don't buy European produced Coke and the objective of the boycott is nil : you only succeed in destabilising the local French market. American interests are safe. They know very well that any Coca-Cola drinker will not give up Coca Cola on a long term basis. A decrease in sales will only lead to the unemployment of some French locals employed by Coke. Why would America care?

As for boycotting American music or movies, or Nike shoes, it is almost unthinkable LOL !!!
