    Thanx, Jim.

Also, is there a biblical example of a demon-posessed man causing others any harm ? The most vivid examples are that they most cut themselves, and screamed at night. I don't remember a demon posession where the person killed anyone.

    But I'll read the scripture.

And it does look like demons posessed men in Stephen & Paul's time.

But I still don't think this guy was posessed.

    Hello Bro. Curtis
I do think un-Godly people can be possessed or at least used by the Devil in today. Whether this guy was actually possessed I could not say and yes he was a monster. It is easy to believe the Devil could have used him. Prayers to all those who are suffering because of his evil.:praying:

However, I just wanted to correct you on some things. 1) The Holy Spirit was among people before and during Christ's time on Earth and 2) Demons did possess people and with no mention of having permission. As you noted the tempting of Job and Christ. The difference with Job is he was a Godly man and Christ of course is Lord. We accept Christ as our Savior and the Holy Spirit resides within us. People of the World do not have this protection and assurance. Though we may suffer temptation and face evil the Lord assures us He is with us and such will never be too much.

    With the Psalm of David

An Angel tells of the coming birth of John the Baptist. Who came before our Savior in making way for him.

You can go to Bible Gateway for quick references and word searches. I found the site a few years ago and it is absolutely great. http://www.biblegateway.com/

You may consider this while making your decision whether this guy is/was possessed:
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

This guy did the enemy's bidding there is no doubt.

You may also recall that Jesus said the enemy s a liar and murderer from the beginning.

(I am gonna get in trouble but here goes....!)

I think there is no such thing as "mental illness". I think most if not all "mental illness" is simply demonic possession which has been excused by psycho-babble. That "mental illness" which is NOT demonic is more likely self-will run riot.

We have bought the world's lie and too often excuse sin and call it "illness".

    In His service;
    Jim

I have excellent resoures, at home, I'm just trying to keep people from blaming anyone but our own sinful nature, inherited from Adam.

So along with my question about demon posessed people causing others harm, I would like to know if a man cured from demon posession needed frogiveness for actions committed during the posession ?

I don't think your questions can be Biblically answered since we are not given that kind of details about individuals who were possessed. I think if we start to "read between the liines" we can assume that certainly some of these people did indeed hurt others, but again, that is just an assumption and we cannot be certain one way or the other.

I will say however; that when we see a person "cured" of possession in Scripture I think it is assumed that all their past behaviours have been forgiven.

    In His service;
    Jim

Job 1:12 And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand." So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
Job 1:13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house,
Job 1:14 and there came a messenger to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them,
Job 1:15 and the Sabeans fell upon them and took them and struck down the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
Job 1:16 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
Job 1:17 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, "The Chaldeans formed three groups and made a raid on the camels and took them and struck down the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."

Definate satanic / demon influence here causing harm and death to others.

Sorry Webdog, I don't see posession, and I am not arguing agaisnt influence. I don't believe Satan can posess folks, he's an angel, not a spirit, and posession is never mentioned, here.

I'm sorry I issed this when you posted it.

Good answers, I disagree with the second one. But I appreciate a good debate. I'll try and look into biblical demon posession & get some facts, there are resources one can trust.

Who says that demon possession and mental illness are mutually exclusive??

Certainly the demons AIDED this madman, if they didn't COMPEL his murderous rage.

We live in the same "church age" that Paul the Apostle did -- he confronted demons, and cast them out. They are still alive and active -- and we still confront them even if we don't know it.

I, too, have had ocassion to witness demonic activity/possession -- but I disagree with your conclusion. I think he may have been possessed -- but of a certainty he was INFLUENCED by demons.

I agree with your statement, but want to point out that there are those who ascribe everything to demons, when some are simply mental illnesses.

    Both extremes are incorrect, IMO.

Who is to say that the individual did not give the demon permission? I have dealt with those types before. (Thankfully, after the fact, when they were talking about how it happened.)

A selfish, hateful, vengeful, prout, & haughty person would be more likely to want the additional feeling of power that demonization could provide, or at least would be more susceptible to the influence.

Satan is the same as any other demon...they are all fallen angels.
Demon possession can't be dismissed in those passages in Job. I hardly think it was mere coincidence that all of those things were happening at the EXACT same time. Satan isn't omnipresent, so he couldn't be in both the chaldeans and sabeans camps at the same time. I think it's a good argument for demon possession.

It would be a better argument if posession was mentioned, or even implied, niether is the case in Job.

On the contrary. The beginning of the chapter does indeed imply the raids from both clans were directly inspired by Satan, and we know they occurred at the exact same time. This wasn't mere coincidence. You don't need the actual words for something to be implied, like Trinity, rapture, etc.

Job 1:12 And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand." So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
