Not really. Because then, anytime there is a drought in Africa or some third world country, all the elites who read basic macroeconomics would be selling it for $3.15 per gallon. :D

I paid $3.119 a gallon yesterday in So. Cal for 100 gallons, enough to get home, and it was $2.849 here in So OR this AM.

You guys need to move to Arkansas. You're paying way too much. Gas is now down to $2.31 at Wal Mart. Even though their demand is way up, their prices keep going down. Hmmmmm. :D

Actually, Joseph, based on the prices I have seen today from El Dorado to West Monroe, Louisiana I think your area may be the beneficiary of an old fashion gasoline price war. The lowest price I saw today on my trip was still $0.18 higher than your area's price.

I just saw $2.68.9. I was all excited about the drop until I read this thread.

I might offer that theory some validity, except for the fact that the other gas companies don't seem to realize that war was declared. The next cheapest price I have seen is $2.43. that is a dime above Wal-Mart. There are still many (actually most) gas stations that are up to $2.60 and above. I just think they are greedy and gouging us.

You think wrong. Bill O'Reilly lately has been showing himself to be an absolute ignoramus about the oil industry. I would urge you not to follow his misguided lead on this subject.

In a large metropolitan area one will see a greater spread of prices than in a small town. Here they usually vary by no more than a penny.

    Ken,

Resorting to name-calling? Isn't that the sign that you are losing the debate? Sorry...but I certainly thought they were gouging us before O'Reilly said it. I know this is touchy for you since work for big oil (although, it would seem that your employer are at least getting the message and listening to the people that they are tired of the gouging and excuses), but your arguments, thus far, are less than convincing to me. They don't add up to reality. Again, the demand at Wal-Mart is way up, yet their prices are down. They demand everywhere else is way down, yet their prices are still way up. Tell me, Ken. How long are the other gas stations going to keep their prices up in this so-called "gas war" while they wait to get rid of their "expensive fuel"? If they don't come down soon, I would say they are stupid and deserve to go out of business because of their greed.

Not just for Joseph, but what is your economics books of choice? Thomas Sowell has a good one. What would you recommend?

Our gas is still pretty high - 2.89 for regular. But as it had been around 3.19 last month, it is lower now.

I filled up at 2.39 on Tuesday and saw it at 2.36 this morning. I believe these are the lowest prices we've had here since March or April.

I have seen gas for about 2.35 a gallon. Those stations that continue to charge higher prices are being greedy. In my town the prices can vary by .20 cents a gallon. To me the higher priced stations are simply being greedy and counting on the ignorant public to pull into their stations to fill up or those who get caught up in that particular station being part of their routine. I for one shop around since I drive around alot.

It's been too long since I read a macroeconomics textbook. There is lots of good info available by looking around at www.mises.org .
