German-American Military People

    While we've fought two great wars against Germany, beginning 1917, many American military leaders & fighters were of German descent. the number is amazing! Here are a few of them :

    Naturally, there are not going to be many Germans fighting against Germany in WW1 and WW2 but there were thousands and thousands of Germans that fought on the Union side in the US Civil war.

    And many Germans fought for and against England during the American War of Independence.
    (and I will not comment about that there has never bee an American "Civil" War)

    No. Far as I can find, the first Robys were highwaymen in what's now Britain.

    I would have merely associated Roby with Robin/Robert, as in "bright fame," not infamous, as in a highway robber. Sorry to make the mistake. :Wink
