I was thinking more along the lines of Claude Rains in Casablanca.

I just hope they make the threads deep enough so the new cover doesn't blow off your Jarhead. Ooh Rah!

Grapes like mine require a greater circumference and a whole lot more material.

Him too, but Inspector Renault was a policeman not a soldier.

This is a picture of then SMaj H.L. Hulbert (field commissoned to CAPT) c. 1917. Note his cover looks to be the cover the proposed cover is modeled on.
As for the campaign hat, it's still worn by DIs. But it's always been worn with utility\field\undress greens, never with dress blues.

Still looks like the French gendarmes, even if they have worn one like it before.

OK, I don't see anyone asking the obvious. What in the world is Obama doing making uniform policy decisions for the USMC? Surely this story is wrong, doesn't he have more pressing issues at hand like Fundamentally changing America to a Socialist state?

The French military and police (including the Gendarmes) have worn the kepi since the turn of the last century. FYI, Inspectors Clouseau and Renault are ordinary civilian policemen, not Gendarmes. And it wouldn't be the first time one of the services was inspired by French uniform styleing.

Yeup, I was right this from the complete NY Post article:
The article further notes the hat is in the proposal stage and has not been adopted.

Throw that proposal in the BO garbage heap where it belongs.

But this is also in the article ...

    As is this ...

Most male Marines don't like the "unisex" look, but given Amos has the final say, it's likely going to be more than just "a proposal."

This may become more than a proposal. But will it be implimented in a "timely manner". I don't think so. It will die a quiet death.

I like em! They'll give the Marines a more international flair like the UN blue patch and berets did for the Army. Might as well look the part of a "global force for good" if you're going to be one.

A proposal like this is not an instananeous proposition. It tkaes longer than the current food fight for something like this make it to this stage. I would hazard it was first conceived in late 2012.

As a Marine I can tell you that when the Commandant speaks it can happen over night.

For the record, while still used in ceremonies, the beret is practically out the door. It's only used for dressy occasions now. Our daily cover is the patrol cap.
