I have noticed that the subject of Global Warming seems to divide across political lines (Republican vs Democrat) in the U.S. and even find it in Christian circles "conservative vs Liberal".

I can "kinda" see how a Republican platform wanting smaller government and less intrusion would think of policies restricting freedom or liberties (like limiting smoking) are considered in the same light as these policies that arise from concerns over global warming - and so this might lead republicans to an anti-global warming POV.

By why in the world would Christians divide on this "conservative vs Liberal"?

Or is it possible that there really is no division at all along "conservative/liberal" lines - just individual opinion that varies within the conservative groups as much as between conservatives and liberals?

    (no horse to ride here)

The world will warm, and putting the SUV keys up will not stop it...

The Lord promised to supply all we need thru his son, Jesus Christ. Christians do not have to fear global warming, our kingdom is not here. Global warming will not approach the heat the lost will feel in hell, but fighting to save the world will make them feel better, for a season....

Rev 8:7 "The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up."

Rev 16:12 "And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared."

    Kings of the East...hmmmmmmmm....

sure. And the malfuncting light in my car says:

    Your Door is A JAR!!

Sorry, my Door is a door, not a jar :(

    Meanwhile, back on topic:

I am a conservative Christian religiously.
I am a conservative American politically.
I am a Global Warming accepter logically.

BTW, at the yearly world usage rate and the known
oil resources in 1976 we were going to run out of
    oil in 2002.
The yearly world usage rate and the known
oil recources in 2002 we are going to run out of
    oil in 2028.
The 2002 yearly world oil usage rate is
about 3 times what it was in 1976?

I am pleased to have provided some entertainment --

Still the question remains -- does anyone see this issue as having anything to do with Christians such that doctrine or Christian values would lead you to "believe the Global Warming" arguments or "disbelieve them"?

    in Christ,

Since the earth was created with age (like man), it cannot be proven or disproven through Scripture.

I am not sure what you mean by that - I am just asking about the issue of why people tend to connect some position on Global warming to conservative-vs-liberal theology.

Not sure why a view accepting or rejecting the idea of Global warming would have anything to do with theology.

Let's say the world is 6000 years old and that the flood was 4500 years ago -- still we could be having global warming in the past 150 years - or this could be a cycle that takes place every 2000 years, either way I am not sure that theology would cause you to believe or disbelieve the arguments for global warming.

Proponents of darwinianism will say it's connected to evolution. Proponents of ID will state it's different. Besides political, it is very well theological, too.

What i find amusing is that people actually believe they can do something about it.

I guess they believe God is off the throne, left us to ourselves, and we must save the human race. More sad even still is the fact that people who call themselves Christians believe this as well.

How about all of these past (and present) Christian Presidents believing they can solve the mid-east peace problem? Did they not ever hear the scripture that states it is never going to happen until Jesus comes and fixes it?

    God Bless!

    Golobal warming

I am sure there will be people who will deceitfully handle the word of God and come up with ways to support or dispute GW. My opinion is that fearful people tend to fall for "the sky is falling".

It is sad, but it seemed to me that "conservative" christians (small c on purpose) seemed to fall for Y2K at a higher rate than "liberal" Christians (or christians). I'm not saying that people that fell for Y2K were not Christians, rather it was in spite of them being Christians that they were fearful and went out and bought 500 lbs. of dry beans and hundreds of gallons of water. My neighbors are still eating their lentils  .

It is time Christians did not let such things make them get tossed to and fro.

James 1:8 "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

II Tim 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

God has told man to take dominion over the land and be good stewards of it. If there is sound SCIENCE that tells me that global warming is my fault because of my pickup truck I will prayerfully consider getting rid of it.

A lot of Christians feel good about themselves by DOING something that will make them appear to care. However, we are to love in deed and in truth.

I said: //The 2002 yearly world oil usage rate is
about 3 times what it was in 1976?//

Checking some figures, it could only be
that the 2002 yearly world oil usage is but
160% of the 1976 yearly world oil usage.

I'm curious as to why you would use a small "c" on conservatives and a capital "c" on liberals.

Are conservatives not Christians with a capital "C"???

    Global warming

Look closely and you will see I used both a "c" and "C" with liberals. My point was not to say who the "real" Christians are because I was talking about hypothetical groups of people. Don't go saying I shouldn't do that because I didn't start the whole conservative-liberal thing.

"Are conservatives not Christians with a capital "C"???"

I would say NO. Conservatives are not Christians but some Christians have earned the label "conservative" by a myriad of charactaristics. Some of those things are connected to Christianity and others are connected to christianism (if that is a word).

We live in a culture that has been "christianized" and has deceived many into thinking they are born again because of their political, social, or even religious positions. The body of Christ is not a PAC, religious party or social activist movement. Their are true born again believers in all kinds of these organizations. May God grant us the wisdom to see that these are not what the Kingdom of God is all about. Being involved in them is fine and may even be what God wants someone doing, but it is not a litmus test for believers.

A good example of what I mean is Saddam Hussien. He was not a Muslim, he had been "muslimized". I really don't think he gave a hoot about Islam. He used Islamic teaching that suited him and made him appeal to the largest group of Iraqis as possible. Listen closely and you will see the same thing happening to American voters during the coming election cycle. Only here christianity is used to appeal to the masses. We need to remember that we are electing a president not a pastor. Maybe the fact that we actually do "elect" our pastors has contributed to this mentality.

Blinded by Might by Cal Thomas and a pastor from Grand Rapids, MI is a good book that addresses this issue. It deals with the rise of the religious right to political power in the US.

The Church is losing sight of its calling to evangelize with the Holy Spirit and build the Kingdom of God.

Gal 1:10 "For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ."

I Cor. 1:27 "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty"

There are huge differences of opinion among the 400 plus so called Christian religious sects, and about the only thing in common among them is that some are saved. There are many viewpoints, that would indicate to me that one is not "reborn" but in fact lost, and I probably appear that way to some.

So if the OP is assuming some commonality among the so called Christian community, in this issue, it is a flawed assumption.

    Solution to global warming:

Decrease the Earth's population by 2 billion people.
    That should help alot.
Unfortunately, the population rises by about 100 million per year, more or less.

In the past century the earth's human population has quadrupled, growing from 1.5 billion in 1900 to about 6 billion today. By 2050, it is estimated that the global population will reach 9 billion. In 1968, a young biologist named Paul Ehrlich wrote a best-selling book called The Population Bomb, which sparked an ongoing debate about the dangers of overpopulation. He argued that population growth was destroying the ecological systems necessary to sustain life.

According to physics energy is neither created or destroyed, it just changes from one form to another. All of the energy produced by burning any kind of fuel eventually ends up as heat to heat up the air. Add to that the greenhouse gas effect. Mankind is causing global warming. Every new baby born represents more heat produced as fuels are burned to produce his food, transportation and other energy needs for the rest of his life.
Decreasing the population is the only real solution to global warming.
Since the population is still rising there is now no solution.

    1. The entire population of Earth could easily fit in NY state. The problem is not "room" or "size".

    2. No question that the way that we use up natural resources is not always the best for the environment -- but why can't we simply fix the problem over time?

Example: For decades we have "heard" the myth and story telling of a "car that runs on water" -- basically electrolysis that safely and effeciently separates hydrogen and Oxygen - burns small amounts of hydrogen and has the by-product (exhaust) H2O. Well now it is real - HumV expected to come out next year for the DoD that is a hybrid using both the Petroleum and the Water solution. Phase 1. Denny Kein's work was presetend to the U.S congress and he is currently under contract with the U.S Government.
