While addressing global warming is a top priority of the Obama administration, it ranks low on the public's list of concerns, according to a Pew Research Center poll released Thursday.

I believe that Global Warming ought to be an issue that is important to the church. I believe that we ought to address issues of the enviroment. God did create it and gave us the command to be stewards of it. Even, if you don't believe in Global Warming than you must still have a concern for it.

Why? Do you believe in reincarnation? No? Well I say you should still have a concern for it. Even if you don't believe you'll reincarnate as a pig you should be concerned about it.

Personally, I reject the idea that global warming is caused by human activity to any significant extent. However, I do think that we should be concerned about having clean air to breathe and clean fresh water to drink.

Agreed. I'm a fisherman and do all I can within reason to protect the natural habitat of the fish I love to catch :). When I start to have a problem with enviromentalism is when it values plants, animals, or resources as more important than man.

As has been pointed out by others in other threads polls such as this one are relatively meaningless. We do not know the bias of those conducting the poll. We do not know how the questions were phrased.

I have never put much faith in polls since I read the book You Can Lie With Statistics.

The theory behind democracy is that we can elect people who are better qualified and/or more moral than ourselves to run the country. Since Carter we have been electing "good old boys" so that we can laugh at them. Our young people finally got it right.

Sorry, but you are wrong. The theory behind a democracy is that each person has a vote in the process. I think what you are trying to explain is the theory behind a republic (or representative democracy), which is what the US is. We are not a democracy no matter how many times people repeat the misconception.

One, we're not a democracy. Read up on your civics.

Two, your opinions are way off...course, that is an opinion. :D

Three, what does this have to do with the topic?

I first read it in 1962 (like 47 years ago). I took a mathematics course in Stats like in 1968, The cute name means "how you can figure out who is lying with stats'.

I find it amusing how often those who say they do not believe in global warming change their criticism.

Until a few years ago they insisted there was no global warming.

Then they changed to, there has been warming, but it is part of the natural cycle, not caused by man.

Currently it is popular to say, it is a man made scam.

I wonder what is coming next in their opposition.

    Oh, that makes sense.

Let me paraphrase: "I've heard other people with weak arguments. Therefore, your argument is weak."

Several times on this forum, I've offered reasoned arguments.

But yet, I'm responsible for anyone who has ever held any position that remotely resembles mine?

That would be like me accusing you of voting for Clinton, and thus being in favor of infidelity.

Besides...let's give you the benefit of the doubt (a big jump).

    Here's the other side's position:

1975: We're all gonna freeze! Give us your money.
1996: My bad...we're all gonna roast. Give us your money.
2008: (mounting desperation) Wait....Let me explain! The reason it's getting colder is due to global warming. Give us your money.

    Wow. What a stunning case.

I'll take my reasoning any day over the "reasoning" enumerated above.

Where is this "global warming"? Many who are freezing right now would disagree that there is any such thing. Right now the only things I'm concerned with are staying warm, paying my bills, and keeping food on my table. Everything else takes a back seat to those.

I'm guessing you are doing a better job of staying warm in FL that we have been in much of Central KY for the last two weeks - you know, ice storm, equals no power and all that. We just got our power back on two hours ago, here, thanks to a lot of borrowed talent and help from other regions. My local Co-op has about 73,000 meters if I heard correctly, yesterday. At one point a week and a half ago, they had a grand total of exactly eight meters with power. We were out for 11 days and 16 hrs, here, and it will probably be another week and a half before all are back on line, just in thius county. Some, such as my sister-in-law, will likely be much longer, because they will have to wait for, insurance damages to be fixed, as her mast was ripped completely off her home, by a falling large limb from a tree, just missing my niece, who had heard the noise and had looked out the door to see what had happened.

The last two weeks in Oklahoma it has been averaging 12 degrees more than average. The nights are only 8 degrees more than average; the days are 16 degrees more than average.

Yes, we in Oklahoma sent lots of people to KY to help them with their Electrical Power Infrastructure repairs.
