We'll be singing "When I Survey" this morning in church. One of my favorites also.

We do an updated version of this - it's the same verses with the same melody and such but then there's a chorus to go with it:

    Oh the wonderful cross
    Oh the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find
    That I may truly live
    Oh the wonderful cross
    Oh the wonderful cross
All who gather here by grace
Draw near and bless Your name

ROTFL - Yeah - I realized later that I didn't give credit where credit is due - He wrote that.

    On My Cross
    Jeromy Diebler
Copyright (C) 2001 New Spring Publishing

How wide is Your love that You would stretch Your arms and go around the world?
And why for me would a Savior's cry by heard?
I don't know why You went where I was meant to go.
I don't know why You love me so.

Those were my nails, that was my crown,
That pierced Your hands and Your brow.
Those were my thorns, those were my scorns,
Those were my tears that fell down.
And just as You said it would be, You did it all for me.
And after You counted the cost, You took my shame, my blame, on my cross.

How deep is Your grace that You could see my need and choose to take my place?
And then for me, these words I'd hear You say,
"Father, no, forgive them for they know not what they do.
I will go, because I love them so."

Those were my nails, that was my crown,
That pierced Your hands and Your brow.
Those were my thorns, those were my scorns,
Those were my tears that fell down.
And just as You said it would be, You did it all for me.
And after You counted the cost, You took my shame, my blame, on my cross.

    Unplowed Ground
    Ross King
    Copyright (C) 2002 Ross King

It's drier here than ever I remember,
The fields that once were green and tall are now so bare.
And patience for relief has turned to anger
And joyous praise has been replaced by faithless prayer.

I used to love to tend these fields for hours
And even times of drought would only serve to spur me on.
But now it seems like years without a shower
And somehow my desire to grow has come and gone.

This was the word to Jeremiah, but I think it applies to me right about now...

Break up your unplowed ground, and turn your heart to Me again.
Lay all your idols down; come confess your sin.
I long to ease your pain and bring your fields to life once more,
But I will not send My rain until you make Me Lord.

A vineyard ripe with blessing now surrounds me,
And every harvest so much more than I hoped for.
But as the fruit increases all around me,
I see how fat I am and I'm still wanting more.

This was the word God gave Hosea, but I think it applies to me right about now...

Break up your unplowed ground, have you so soon forgotten Me?
I cannot watch you bow at the altar of prosperity.
I long to shower down and see our love affair restored.
So break up your unplowed ground; it's time to seek the Lord.

Habits turn to cycles turn to seasons,
And seasons turn to years before we know.
And we lay still alive but barely breathing,
And we whisper, "That's just the way it goes..." but the Lord says No.

Break up your unplowed ground and you will find a treasure.
Sell everything you own to buy what can't be measured.
I long to lay you down in richer fields than you have known.
So break up your unplowed ground and make this land your home.

One of my favorites is the old Gaither song:
    God Gave The Song

You ask me why my heart keeps singing
why I can sing when things go wrong.
But since I've found the source of music
I just can't help it. God gave the song.

Come walk with me thru fields and forests.
We'll climb the hills and still hear that song.
For even hills resound with music.
They just can't help it. God gave the song.

What's that I hear - I still hear that music
day after day. that song goes on.
For once you know the source of music
you'll always hear it. God gave the song.

Come on and join - It's the song of Jesus
day after day that song goes on
For once you know the source of music
you'll always hear it. God gave the song.
For since I've found the source of music
I just can't help it. God gave the song.

    Temptations
    J.R. feat. This'l

    Vs 1

Its 3:00 in the morning and there’s a war raging deep inside of me, ay, ay.
One half wants to go to sleep the other half wants to feed the lust in me,
such a dirty game, the dirty games that we play so I.
Reach for the remote control start flicking through the channels to see what I can see, and before I found it my dirty this is what I heard
You supposed to be a man of God, how come you acting like you don’t believe in me
Lord my will is weak, so father this is what I pray, so I said.

    Hook

Lord Jesus will you keep my mind, Lord Jesus will you keep my mind, Lord Jesus will you keep my mind, cause I’m weak in the flesh I’m about to wild out (2x)

    Vs 2

It’s the top of the month and the rent is due, so I guess I gotta get on the grind
Another week before I get my last check cause I just lost my 9 to 5 so I.
Go into survival mode and I’m looking for some cheese to make, I don’t know if this change is good but dirty I got bills to pay. The lights are off and the food is gone and I’m starting to break cause I can’t seem to see the light of day.
I know you’re my provider but my faiths on fire and I need your guidance or this house will burn down
Lest you send your grace, so father this is what I pray and I said

    Hook

    Bridge

I know the flesh is a beast but we must trust him with every little thing
We know his word is the truth so we must trust him in everything we do (2x)

    verse

I can tell the way that mommy moving, she like them boys that do that gangsta music
She wish we did it like the gangstas do it, but we ain't gangstas it’s the cross we movin
I can tell by the way she groovin she tryin to hypnotize me by the way she movin
I’m like woa momma what you doing, Lord help me temptations brewing
    I’m like maybe I could, I should, I can’t, like maybe it’s good, I could, I aint
Lord help me to keep my mind, baby girl drippin honey Lord plus she fine
    I’m like maybe I could, I should, I can’t
    Like mommy it’s good, I’m cool, I can’t
Lord Jesus will you keep my mind cause you know that my flesh really wants to wild out

Dress down your pretty faith; give me something real.
Leave out the "thee and thou" and speak to me now.
Speak to my pain and confusion, speak through my fears and my pride,
Speak to the part of me that knows there's something deep down inside.

I know that I'm not perfect, but compare me to most,
In a world of hurt and a world of anger I think I'm holding my own.
And I know that you've said there is more to life, and no, I am not satisfied,
But there are morning when I wake up and I'm just thankful to be alive.

I've known now for quite awhile that I am not whole.
I've remembered the body and the mind but dissected my soul.
Now something inside is awakening, like a dream I once had and forgot.
And it's something that I'm scared of, and something I don't want to stop.

I woke up this morning and realized that Jesus is not a portrait,
Or stained-glass windows, or hymns, or all the tradition that surrounds us.
And I thought it would be hard to believe in, but it's not hard at all
To believe I've sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

And He's not asking me to trade in my joy for martyrdom, He's asking to take my place.
To stand in the gap that I have formed with His real and His sweet,
    And His real amazing grace!

It's not just a sign or a sacrament, it's not just a metaphor for love:
The blood is real and it's not just a symbol of...
It's not just a sign or a sacrament, it's not just a metaphor for love:
The blood is real and it's not just a symbol of your faith.

So leave out the "thee and thou" and speak now.

Who is like unto the Lord our God who dwelleth on High, who dwelleth on High?

You dwell in glory; the heavens are Your home.
You began the story, and made Your beauty known.
But You created nothing that gives me more pleasure than You.
And You won't give me something that gives me more pleasure than You.

You flung the planets, in Your image You made man.
I'm overcome and broken at the wonders of Your hand.
But You created nothing that gives me more pleasure than You.
And You won't give me something that gives me more pleasure than You.

Who is like unto the Lord our God who dwelleth on High, who dwelleth on High?
