Dear Sheila,

I am now safe at my friends house in Maine.


I got really sick on the bus ride here and have been in bed since I got here, but I am feeling better this morning. Today, I have a list of doctors and mental health facilities to contact to see where I need to go. The facility that my friend had contacted actually specializes in addiction treatment, and I dont need that, but there are several more here that will treat me for depression. I was pretty sick physically when I got here and everyone suggested that I take a few days and rest up and before I jump right into a mental facility.

My parents died in the 90's, and since then my family has drifted more and more apart, lots of grudges and animosity between them. And lots towards me because I have been the black sheep of the family. My daughter hasnt spoken to me in 4 years and I havent seen my oldest son since 1988 when he was 8 years old. This has been a heavy burden that has haunted 24/7 for 20 years, and it hurts bad. Thats why I couldnt bear the thought of going through it another child for another 15 years. (I also have 2 grand children that I have never seen or spoken to)

I very seldom have any contact with anyone in my family, so I didnt think I had any one to turn to when I wanted to kill myself. Well, my aunts and uncles have rallied around me in the last 3 days, and have called my friend here apologising saying that she is doing for me what my family should have done. They are calling everyone, including my kids, and telling them all that its time to drop the grudges and just love each other again. They are actually trying to bring the family back together like it hasnt been for almost 20 years.

Sheila, you started this, and my friend here in Maine joined in, and now phones are ringing all over the US with folks trying to make amends with one another. Several have called me here already, and every time one of them calls it gives me more hope, and more reason to live. That little bit of love you sowed with me is growing like you wouldnt imagine, and I am so happy. Its hard to believe that 4 days ago I was on the verge of dieing, and now there is this huge miracle taking place in my life.

I really dont feel like going on the BB for a while, (I am sure you can guess why), so would you tell my friends there what I shared with you? And let them know that I made to someplace where I am loved? You can just share this letter with them if you wish to.
