Greear Looks North for Resolutions Leadership

SBC President JD Greear has appointed two academics — Ed Stetzer & Angela Suh Um — to craft this year's Resolutions

"Ed Stetzer has been named chairman of the 2020 Southern Baptist Convention Resolutions Committee, SBC President J.D. Greear announced Tuesday. Greear also announced his appointment of Angela Suh...as vice chair."

Ed Stetzer is a professor at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, and is 'interim teaching pastor' of Moody Church (nondenominational) in Chicago.

Angela Suh Um of Cambridge, Massachusetts is founder and chief consultant at Boston Academic Consulting Group. It had been decades since a woman had been given a leadership role on the committee.

Ms. Um was on the Resolutions Committee last year. Greear indicated he'd reveal his selections for the rest of the committee in due time.

Greear chose from the SBCEC:

Robyn Hari, also on the Southern Baptist Foundation board.

Andrew Hunt, pastor of "New Life Community Church — a Reformed Community" in Indianapolis.

Jared Wellman, also on Russell Moore's ERLC Leadership Council. He was on last year's Resolutions Committee.

His other picks: three ERLC Research Fellows (Bruce Ashford, Bart Barber, and Katie McCoy), Alex Cosio of the Evangelical Immigration Table, and Brooke Medina, a member of Greear's own Durham, N.C. 'Summit Church' (Ashford is also a 'lay elder' there).

 

Today's story from SBC organ Baptist Press explains that Stetzer has been "maintaining his home church membership at Grace Church [SBC] in Hendersonville, Tenn." since he moved to Illinois in 2016!
