My family fought for the Confederacy, something I am very proud of, and if I had lived during that time, I would have eagerly fought for the Confederacy too.

What reason would I have had, as a Southerner, to fight for a federal government that had nothing but contempt for me and that overreached its Constitutional bounds in order to place its hands around the throat of my family, my neighbors, and my state?

Why on Earth wouldn't I have fought for my home and my family and neighbors?
