From the comments I think he should just shut up and let the vandalism go on. People don't seem to like it when you come up with an idea like this that could be helpful. Why ? Well, I guess they're thinking Theyshoulda thought about it.
Why should some freak with past records and no combat experience get all the glory, you know what I'm saying ?
A cooperative spirit is dying in this country.
What is growing is a cynical one.

The comments for the story are more disturbing than the story itself....

Although I do agree with one of the comments: Using the name "militia" resulted in immediate media attention, which went a long way with helping this guy get advertising.

I personally know Jon. Several years ago,he was a co-host for a local radio station on each Friday. At the time the Gulf war was big news. He stood firm behind President Bush. Some callers wanted to know why he would not enlist. The reason is that he was too old. About a year later, the Army Reserve changed its policy to allow men up to age 39 to enlist. That day Jon went down and enlisted. A couple years later he was sent to a combat zone. Yes, he was in combat!
