So will the HCSB go the way is the 1984 NIV and not be published any longer? Maybe I should pick up that SUPER-giant print bible I've been looking at on christianbook.com.

Probably so; it makes sense. Despite the hue and cry when the 1984 NIV was discontinued --it's a common practice.
The 1977 NASB isn't published anymore, or the 1996 and 2004 NLT. And on and on and on.

I don't keep up with this stuff very much. Could you kindly bring me up to speed on why the HCSB will stop being published.

It was revised, and they dropped the "H" from the name.

I'm about 50% through reading the new CSB.

Thanks. I had heard of the CSB but had no idea it was revised HCSB.

I haven't send and couldn't find an official statement on the fate of the HCSB. It seems reasonable and likely that only the CSB will be available after copies of HCSB are old out.

I have a CSB. It was given away by the publisher at the ETS meeting last November.

I've been using it for a while now and am finding that it holds up fairly well against the other major translations.

I thought the HCSB was quirky.
I didn't like reading it out loud in class.
I've got no trouble with the CSB.

My guess is that the HCSB will eventually not be available due to fewer and fewer people using it.

Very accessible. I was an HCSB user for a number of years, but had just recently been using an NIV. But if I were picking out a Bible for someone who was spoke ESL or had no previous interaction with Christianity, this would be my pick.

I was kinda sad to see most of the uses of Yahweh gone, but it's not like you don't know where they went. So that's no big deal. Can't say I agree with changing "languages" back to "tongues." Seems like a move to gain back charismatic purchasers. There use of modern phrasing in the text with explanations of the literal in the footnotes makes things flow very well.

With this version, I believe their hope is to supplant the ESV. That's a pretty lofty goal, but judging from the rumblings of the internet, it seems to be gaining traction far outside of just SBC circles. You can see positive reviews popping up from lots of places, like on puritanboard.

The publisher will be using CSB exclusively rather than HCSB in its products.
HCSB phaseout/selloff to be complete by year's end according to this press release:

B&H to Launch Christian Standard Bible (CSB) Version in 2017 - B&H Publishing Group

The HCSB file/option has yet to be yanked from Bible websites and apps, as was done with NIV1984.

I suspect that may be because there is still Lifeway literature out there that uses the older version.

Hitting Numbers and Isaiah now, so "Lord of Armies" instead of "Lord of Hosts" looks to be a new change. So far it seems like an agreeable change, in my opinion.

Making one of the newer translations obsolete this early makes no practical sense. $$$$$$$ must be the driving force.

There seem to be definite improvements made to the text. That can't be denied.

I looked at all the changes listed on csb website. None seemed like true improvements to me.

Every single one? You looked at each and every one and determined that none were better than what was rendered in the HCSB?

I looked at the ones they had listed on their website as examples. I think they might have brought the reading level down a bit, but in there examples I saw no improvement.
