    Hi All,

Reading through some other posts, I have been seeing a recurring discussion of healings that happen in other, less developed, countries among newly evangelized peoples. However, such healings do not seem to take place in the same way here, in the U.S. Why do you suppose that is?

On a related thought, I have yet to see from one who believes the gifts of the Spirit have passed an explanation as to why the gift of healing would have passed away. I've only seen a statement that it has passed, not a reason why. I can see why some would think tongues, interpretation, and prophecy have passed, but I don't understand why the other gifts would have passed.

Any thoughts as to the above? Thankyou.

Is there suppost to be a certian way to be healed? Jesus healed people in different ways. Putting mud on the blind mans eyes, woman with the issue of blood, impotant man...ect. How do they get healed in less developed countries? I did read that a preacher who started a church in Uganda(sp?) all the people have to do is walk into the church. (700 clubs website)

Where in the bible does it say that any of the gifts have passed?
This is the same debate going on in "What has ceased" thread. So far that I see there has been one passage of scripture out of the bible that has been used to try to debate that tongues, prophecies has ceased 1Cor.13:8-10. To me I think it largly depends on how an individual interprets 1Cor.13:10. [IMG]

My father was healed here in America..
I didnt hear this story until almost ten years later. I was quite young when it happened, and it happened in a Catholic Church.

My father was going blind. He couldnt work, he couldnt drive, he couldnt see anything. It seemed to us that for months, all he did was sit in a dark room alone. He was so depressed. I was in the fifth grade and my dad was one of those distant fathers so I didnt notice much. I just knew my dad wanted to be alone.

Well, one Sunday morning, I walked my dad to church and we went to church and I didnt notice anything happen. I walked him home and when we got home, my dad walked upstairs to his bedroom and started screaming out sobbing. It was an awful sound. It scared me so much that I went outside in the backyard and just stayed on my swing for a long time while my mom tended to my dad.

I dont know what happened that day., I dont know if that was the day that my dad got saved, though I am certain that he is now, but within weeks, my dad could see fully again. I was just a kid, so it didnt phaze me much but years later, after I got saved myself and since I was in the charismatic church, we dealt a lot with healing, well, I was talking about healing and my mom told me that my dad was healed. He heard an audible voice and everything. The voice (my father told my mom that he assumes it was an angel, but doesnt know) told him that everything was going to be okay and that he would see again. This supposedly happened that sunday that I walked him to church, IN CHURCH..

so, while I dont know all the particulars I do give God the glory for it. My dad is a very quiet man. I have asked him about this, and all he will say is that God told him he would be healed, and he was healed.

I dont tell this story a lot, because it seems absolutely unbelievable.. But, the fact remains that he unexpectedly lost his sight, and he miraculously got it back.

    Emily that is so wonderful!
This next question I'd like to ask but I don't want it to sound rude. But I'll just throw it out here....... I just recently started learning some about the catholic doctrine (crash course from joining the BB) [IMG] and I was wondering when you said your dad was saved........are you saying he was catholic saved or ? The reason I asked I have been reading a book on Maria Woodsworth Etter and some people at her crusades where healed then saved or vice a versa but I just think it interesting when God works healing and with those of different denoms.

Healings will take place in America when Americans quit picking apart the Word of God and Simply believe that the Bible says what it means and Means what it says.

By the way Many healings do take place every week in America in churches and crusades.

I have been afflicted with health problems at times and assured in my prayers that they would be healed. And they were. But not instantly. I still give God the credit.

One of the signs that follow those who believe is that they will lay hands on the sick and they shall RECOVER. Recovery is a very broad term.
I hope all is going well with you now.

    There are two issues here.

#1. Did God ordain the Gifts He gave to the church in 1Cor 12 should stop? Not according to 1Cor 14:1-2, not according to Ephesians chapter 4. They still viable - promises of God - they are not "deleted".

#2. Do we see continued manifestation of the spiritual gifts today as they did at pentecost? No. But this is no more "God's doing" than the disciples failure in Matt 17 after already being GIVEN the ministry gifts in Matt 10 was "God's fault".

The current trends to blame the failure of the Christian church upon God as if "God willed" the loss of the Gifts He gave to His church - has no support in scripture.

    In Christ,

    Bob

I believe that my father made Jesus Lord of his life. I believe he is living this the only way that he knows how. I believe he is incorrect in many things, but I do believe he is saved.

I dont believe that the Catholic religion gives the saving gospel, but I do believe, that if you pay enough attention, you can get the gospel out of it.

Why don't we see more healing here in the USA?

I read a book a long time ago that gave me the answer. The name of the book is "Like a Mighty Wind" by Mel Tara.

He said that back in the '50's I believe, some evangelists came to his country (Indonesia) and preached the Gospel. He and a lot of other people got saved, started to read the bible and started to do the things they read about: preach the gospel and see people get saved, walk on water, raise people from the dead, lay hands on the sick, and see them recover, speak with new tongues and interpret, decern spirits and cast demons out of people, etc.

He finally came to America, and when he was asked, how they did it, he said: THERE WAS NOBODY AROUND TO TELL US IT COULDN'T HAPPEN!!

So they just took God at His word, and signs followed.

    Working for Him,

    Tam,

I read the book "Like a Mighty Wind" several years ago. This would be a great book for every Christian to read.

Mt.28.20b "... And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Either we believe He is with us or not. If this promise is true, healing can still occur.

NIC, No one is answering your question and that is because of a different understanding of what spiritual gifts are. Anyway, to give you a direct answer to your question. Healings and Miracles as Spiritual gifts were miraculous in nature. What power there was in those gifts. They were needed to authenticate the Gospel when it was first being preached. Those healings and dead being raised gave the Gospel authority in a world where Christianity was just beginning. Once the church was fully established and the Bible was complete, the Bible became the power and authority by which the Gospel was preached. The miraculous gifts of healings and miracles then went away as they were not needed anymore. That is just a short direct answer to your question. Hope it gives you a starting point as you explore these things more. God bless you as you search God’s Word.

    In Christ,
    Brian

    Hello New In Christ,
first about the healings in other countries. God may on occasions use a healing to validate the message of the gospel. However even in other countries it is rare. As for healings in answered prayer they still do take place today even in this country. However there is no one with the gift of healing today. No person can heal at will today as in the early church. That gift has passed away, not the healing power of God through prayer. Also one has to understand that God does not heal every person today even after prayer. It has nothing to do with the amount of faith, but with the Sovereignty of God.

    </font>[/QUOTE]Good post freeatlast!

The Gift of Healing has ceased but God has NOT stop healing. This is where people may get confused. This is a fine line to understand. I know God still heals through prayer because I have seen it myself...

The Gift of Healing has not ceased. It will not cease until Jesus comes. No text of the Bible validates the cessation of healing or any other gift of the Holy spirit.

if you would please give me just one name and address or phone number of someone who has the gift of healing today. They have to be able to heal at will every time to have the gift. That was the gift in the NT church.By the way I would settle for just 1% of the time, but there is none. Those who claim they can have all been proven false over and over, but I will change my mind if you can give me one who can prove it. The gift has passed away unless you can prove otherwise by providing someone who can do it.

The gifts and callings of God are without repentance. When God Puts gifts in the church He is not going to take these gifts away.
Cesationist Theology was unheard of until the beginning of the 20th century when B.B. Warfield started blasting the Pentecostal movement. After this it became popular to bash the gifts of God.
Study a book called : 2000 Years of Charismatic Chritianity by Eddie Hyatt and you will find that gifts of healing have been with us since the ay of Pentecost and these gifts are still functioning and B.B. Warfield can roll over in his grave if He does not like it.
