Helping School Teachers

Lately, on TV, there has been a PSA about helping school teachers.
Specifically, the spot states that many school teachers (probably lower elementary) may spend
some $500 of their own money to purchase items for their class.

I was talking to one pastor who says that his church adopted a local school class to help support
in purchasing items that are not provided by the school.

Is that something your church would consider doing?

The church I pastored some years ago adopted a special needs class in a local elementary school. We had a member that worked as a teacher in the class. She told us the school simply didn’t budget for a lot of the supplies that would greatly help. In other words, they got the minimum.

We purchased specific equipment, learning supplies, as well as holiday gifts for the kids. It was an ongoing yearly giving, and was well received by parents, school officials and other teachers.

The kids wrote thank you letters which we read to the congregation.

We learned that other churches in the area adopted classes as well, painting classrooms during the summer and providing supplies.

It was a very useful ministry and can generate a lot of good will in the community.

peace to you
