High BPA levels linked to male sexual problems

I would say this is a man-made problem.

Exposure to high levels of a controversial chemical found in thousands of everyday plastic products appears to cause erectile dysfunction and other sexual problems in men, according to a new study published Wednesday.

The study, funded by the federal government and published in the journal Human Reproduction, is the first to examine the impact of bisphenol A, or BPA, on the reproductive systems of human males. Previous studies have involved mice or rats.

The research comes as government agencies debate the safety of BPA, a compound that is found in thousands of consumer products ranging from dental sealants to canned food linings and that is so ubiquitous it has been detected in the urine of 93 percent of the U.S. population.

I first heard about this about twenty years ago. At first, I dismissed it as another of the many whacky conspiracy theories that were going around about that time.

But the more I asked around about it, the more credible it seemed to be.

So, since then, we've tried to avoid plastic as much as we can, although, in all fairness, I'm never far from the 1 liter Aquafina bottle I carry everywhere.

Why, of course. Plastic is a by product of oil refining. Since it's a sin to burn so-called "fossile" fuels, naturally any byproduct that can also make one's life easier is anathema.

I've been around plastics all my life and am immersed in them at my work place. I've been microwaving them and eating out of them for 30 years. Still no problems in the arena of love.
