Are there any Baptist Denominations that were started out of the Holiness Movement?

Holiness Churches of today seem to be the Salvation Army, Methodism and the Christian Missionary Alliance, yet I am sure there must be Baptists amongst them?

I don't know of any denominations of such but I know there are many individual congregations that are influenced by such...I would be interested to see what others would have to say.

How about the Free Will Pentecostal Baptists, Ben? They are Wesleyan-Arminian in soteriology and adopted sanctification as a second work of grace from the Holiness movement.

I had not thought of them to be honest! Could their forefathers the Freewill Baptists also be into Arminianism?

The statement of faith of the National Association of Free Will Baptists (non-charismatic) says, word for word, the exact same thing on these topics. Wesleyan to the core.

Oh why God? Why is there not a Freewill Baptist Church in Australia? [IMG]

I wish they would come over here, Australia needs their message!

    Ben W,

I am a Free Will Baptist, have been for the last 10 years or so. I was Pentecostal before that.
My understanding is that Free Will Baptist's mostly consider themselves Reformed Arminian.

It is sad that there are no FWB churches near you. While we are a small denomination, we are blessed that FWB's are a little stronger here in my area of Oklahoma than in other states.

I know a couple of General Baptists and from what they say, they are pretty much the same as FWB's.

    God bless you, Billy

    Ben W:

For the namesake, here is info on Holiness Baptist Association:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holiness_Baptist_Association

We checked into them for historical purposes seeing that they may have been part of Little River Association of KY, our mother association, but it turned out they are of another Little River.

I'm just wondering why a Pentecostal church would want the title Baptist in their name? I read the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church's beliefs. They are nothing like any Baptist I have ever known. Why not just take "Baptist" out of their title? Surely they aren't trying to fool anyone.

They are "Bapticostal"! They believe in the Baptist Distinctives and teach that Cessationism is false.

Note that there are also the "Full Gospel Baptists" http://www.fullgospel.org who are similar, as well as many SBC and other congregations that practice Spiritual Gifts.
