Homosexuals force resignation of Firefox CEO

I've loved using the Firefox browser, but now I'm considering switching.... but to what? Perhaps Opera. Do I know that the next browser I use wouldn't do something jerky like this?

I was pretty saddened by this news.

Leading up to this, I was surprised that a number of Mozilla employees were publicly posting on their blogs, their opposition to him. Even the folks who were supporting him, were saying things like, "OK maybe hiring him was a mistake, but let's work with him now...." With friends like that....

You know, I've always used products, and tech products in particular, without worrying about what CEOs donated to what political causes. Maybe I've been naive, I don't know.

I'm back with MS Explorer but looking for something new.

Talk about bigots! Guess he doesn't have the right to free speech via his dollars like the rest of Mozilla does!

Opera is nice. It is using the rendering engine that the Chrome browser does, but you don't have to do business with Google if you don't like to. Opera has a very nice support forum/community.

Here is the problem. Google is very pro LGBT. Here is their website on it... http://www.google.com/diversity/legalise-love.html Microsoft? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/diversity/programs/ergen/gleam.aspx And Opera is just Chrome re-branded these days so you are basically supporting Google.

This guy resigned. Mozilla basically ignored it until he quit and then they released a statement about this. It's interesting if you spend some time really going over it. https://blog.mozilla.org/press/2014/04/brendan-eich-steps-down-as-mozilla-ceo/

So, do you support companies that are promoting what you are against, or do you keep supporting the one company that has stayed out of it and is working to make privacy stronger for everyone?

It's a tough call for sure. It's really stupid and I would rather he had stayed and seen this through. They were going to kill Chick-Fil-A and we saw how that turned out. This probably would have blown up in their face as well.

What does one man's personal beliefs have to do with his business? He did NOTHING through the company. Honestly, that just goes to show the absolute utter hypocrisy the "gay community" has.

In organizational terms, you are correct. What prompted that earlier comment (not sure if you were aware of this) is that Opera some months ago, adopted the rendering engine in its browser, that is used by Google Chrome.

Perhaps in an indirect sense, using Opera will help Google, in that this might move web designers to code in a more Chrome-friendly way--but its not like Opera is paying Google (at least, not that I've heard of).

As far as the policies go, that's one thing. I'd expect, in a country as litigious as the US is, companies to adopt a wide variety of politically correct policies. But to my knowledge, only one browser has fired a CEO because of his opposition to homosexual marriage, and that is Mozilla.

He resigned, he wasn't fired. Anyhoo, if you are going to try to purge every pro-gay product from your life, good luck with that, it can't be done. Unless you are Amish. But most Amish don't have internet access...

I'm really not sure what you're calling a "pro-gay" product. I don't recall seeing any in my home (nor any "anti-gay" products, for that matter).

The issue is what an organization has done to someone who has publicly opposed homosexual marriage.

And I'd like to second Revmitchell's comment about a forced resignation.

At any rate, I haven't decided to switch--I'm just thinking about it.

One other possibility for a browser is SeaMonkey, although their files are hosted on Mozilla's servers.
