How do you evaluate the health of a church?

We actually had this happen a couple of weeks ago, a fellow obviously intoxicated came into the meeting house about the time Saturday services were ending. I think all of us went back to greet the fellow. (We don't have a big crowd on Saturday afternoons).

The fellow needed some cleaning up and something to eat. We took him over to the under-construction fellowship hall, fixed him a bite, and found out his story, He was looking for a job, lost his mother, and just generally depressed about life. At any rate, he was took drunk to comprehend much, so after he ate, we (my wife and I) drove him home and invited him back the next day for Sunday morning meeting. As we are building a fellowship we offered him a job. But we haven't seen him again -- yet. Maybe the kindness we tried to show him will do him some good. As for his salvation, we leave that to the Lord.

I know this will offend some, but I believe a church should be such a welcoming place that even a drunk would be made a home.

I had a pastor that did this once!! No one wrapped their arms around him. He really let his congregation have it and of course, they were embarrassed and ashamed!
