How do you magnify your office?

    So are you saying that we magnify our ministry through the people we pastor? You are correct...

    No wonder Jesus told the disciples that they would do greater things than Jesus. Jesus magnified his ministry through his disciples...

    Ain't that the truth!

    I won't name names or even places here, but one time when we were between churches, we went to visit a certain church. We have been in literally hundreds of churches as missionaries, but our oldest son (about seven at the time, now 23) STILL remembers that Sunday. We got out to the car after the service and he said to me, 'Dad, those people are COLD!' If you were not a fan of a certain preacher, you just did not fit in there. It all stemmed from the leadership.

    OTOH, when I was still a college student, I went to visit a church in WV as my parents were abiding there at the time. The church had just changed pastors and although the pastor was real friendly, the folks were not. A year or so later I went back and the people of the church had done a 180 and were so friendly and welcoming that it was hard to imagine that it was the same crowd.

    Also, JOJ, you remember Dr. Roberson always says- 'Everything rises or falls on leadership.'

    It was in Lewisburg. The name of the church is Calvary Baptist. It has been many moons since I have been there though.

    Tim, I don't know how, but I completely missed this post first time around. Sorry about that!:eek:

    And it is an excellent point. I wasn't thinking that when I wrote the post, but I think you are exactly right. Paul wrote at one point that the Corinthians were the seal of his ministry, and that if no one else thought he was an apostle surely they should. And your reference to Christ saying His disciples would do greater things than He was right on target. :thumbs:

    I agree also, it is not us or our office that is magnified. It is Christ who is magnified via our office. I am going to repeat what I said earlier, "How do we, we must be availible. If we are availible God can use us and he will magnify us not for our name sake, but for His name sake."

    It has never been about the capability of individuals that made them tools for the Lord. It is only their availibility. God can magnify your one step in to a way or a mission. He can use your speechless, messageless mouth to save sinners. He can take our best effort and make a body fit for the kingdom.

    Well said, but.... Don't we have to say that the office is magnified since Paul said "I magnify my office"? In most of his letters his greeting was, "Paul, an apostle...." In my mind, to tell someone, "Hi, I am Pastor Himes" magnifies the office. (It should be considered a higher office than doctor, lawyer or indian chief!) At the same time, it puts a burden on me to be worthy of the office--something that as sinners we can never truly be, but as redeemed believers we can be through Christ. Just a thought.... :jesus:
