I think that a mountain side is very neutral ground (Sermon on the Mount). I think that Jesus standing in a boat and speaking to crowds on the shore is very neutral ground. And I think that Jesus meeting the scum of the earth (as they were unfortunately treated) at homes of the disciples was very neutral ground.

Jesus meeting the Woman at the Well - at the well - was neutral. Jesus reaching out to the adultress that was to be stoned in the middle of the street was neutral.

If you can show me from the Bible where John the Baptist and Jesus went into brothals to reach the prostitues, I will back down.

He loved them and came to saved them. I believe many were saved. He said so in the Bible. He ate with publicans and sinners. He was not ashamed to be seen publicly with them.

But I cannot find where Jesus entered the house of ill repute where immoral prostitutes were have sex with immoral johns in order to reach them.

    The Bible also says this.

A Christian man walking into a whorehouse, whether he is there to reach the lost or solicit their services, gives the appearance of evil.

I don't know what else to say.

Scarlett, I see your point but I don't think there were such a thing as brothels in that day and culture. There were inns where people ate and sometimes stayed, and Jesus did go to those (with the men on the road to Emmaus is one time I can think of).

I am also thinking there were no whorehouses although there were certainly temple prostitutes, at least in the Gentile countries. And there were women who "entertained" men though it was probably a private place, I would guess.

So there is no way to find a place where Jesus entered such places if they did not exist. I am not saying he would have, but just that the example is not a valid one.

He did let the woman of ill repute wash his feet with her hair, which was a pretty bold thing and was certainly considered an immoral thing by the Jews. Of course, Jesus turned the tables on those judging him.

I think a line should be drawn, and I would not enter a place that was known for immoral behavior. But I have been in a witchcraft store and ended up talking to and witnessing to two people (including the owner, who later came to hear me speak two different times, one at a church). I didn't go in there for that purpose - I went as research for the ministry - but it ended up that way. This also happened in another store run by a witch.

You'd be surprised, however, how many Christians think it's okay for Christians to go to casinos and gamble, the kind of place that seems to promote immorality to me.

I understand what you are saying about the brothels. You are probably right.

And you don't have to tell me about Christians patronizing casinos. I am from Louisiana! Some of the most pious Christians I know don't think a thing about making monthly trips to boat and partaking of everything there from food to gambling. And if I am not mistaken, the Southern Baptist Convention has been held in Las Vegas twice! :tonofbricks: I have heard non-believers laugh their heads off about that one.

I still maintain that Christians should be very, very careful in this area.

DL Moody went about it all wrong when he won countless drunks by going to the highways and hedges of bars preaching the Gospel by your examples. You can limit your view all you wish but that doesn't change history.

I meant to say I understand the sentiments and the precautionary measures. I could not enter places of illrepute without due course. I must have the unction 1st to then have holy boldness next. I've had this before and have gone into drug dens and liquor stores. I don't know where the 1st brothal is, but if it were known its location it wouldn't be place to enter short of that unction and holy boldness being well prayed up and filled with the Spirit.

I am not disagreeing with your overall view, but I don't agree with the argument, using 1Th 5:22.

I like how the NASB translates this verse. I think it does a better job at conveying the real meaning of the verse.

"Abstain from every form of evil." 1Th 5:22

Basically whenever evil appears, in any form we should flee from it. This is the real message of that verse.
