    :Laugh....laughing at my stupidity.

I was reading as if it were an individual trying to leave. Kept thinking....just don't go back.

I’m more curious as to how many churches will stand for Scripture and leave a corrupt system.

Salty, if you can obtain this information I would be interested. Thanks.

If memory serves, Methodist pastors get reassigned every so many years so that pastors move around quite a bit. You might get one Methodist pastor who knows Christ and preaches Christ's blood for atonement while the next person may be entirely social gospel with no blood.
For a congregation to leave and keep the facility may be difficult. At some point the congregation might have to exit the building and reconvene elsewhere.

Who owns the actual building, the congregation or the governing body (not sure what that'd be called)?

It depends. In 1968, The Methodist church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) to become the United Methodist church. At that time, local congregations surrendered their property deeds to the Annual Conference. The Annual Conference comprises local churches aligned within a district. Multiple districts make up an Annual Conference.

Many congregations did and the Annual Conference became the owners of all church-held property. Again, many did not and retained ownership within the local church. A lot of churches were disappointed in the direction the UMC was going and threatened to leave the denomination. The Annual Conference would infer they were welcome to go just leave the building.

I spent 13 years with the UMC and from the District up was an unmitigated disaster. I spent three years at an urban 2 point charge (one pastor-two congregations) and my last 10 at a 2pt country church. The people were amazing - hungry for the Word and grieving the direction the UMC had taken. The first charge dissolved a few years ago and the Conference sold the properties. The proceeds went to the Conference. That last two run a handful of folks, are beholden to the Annual Conference and have dinners, bake and rummage sales to keep the lights on.

Absolutely correct…. What’s more, they now have female pastors and bishop’s.
