    Mine was pretty horrendous.

A friend of a friend of our family knew Steve Bedrosian, so we got tickets to go see the Phillies and to go to the meet and greet that they hold just after batting practice.

Unfortunately, the game was cancelled by a bad storm so we decided to all go to the movies, instead. About halfway through, the manager came in and said that the storm was so bad that they were closing the theater.

So we left and went to the Cherry Hill Mall just to walk around.

Well, the storm was blowing outside and we had just walked in when all of the lights went off and it was hit by a tornado.

Fortunately, we, being from Alabama, knew what to do in a tornado so we were the only ones not panicking.

I remember hiding under one of the benches in the mall and joking to my sister, "I just don't get it. What did I do that God is determined to ruin my birthday?"

I don't remember much about it, I was married, had a toddler, and was pregnant, and it was hot summer time, no, I'm guessing it was pretty bad.

I've tried, but I just can't.. [IMG] ..(well, I haven't tried that hard). I'm just taking some "meditation" time to gather my thoughts into something pithy!

Not as bad as Gib's, but my 18th wasn't fun. I was a freshman in college and on the diving team. A week before had been the biggest meet of my life -- the far western AAU championships. It was at BYU in Utah and we had to travel by bus to get there. The boards had been changed recently to go from the slight tilt the AAU had, which brought you in close to the board to an absolutely level board, which was Olympic standard. That means you had to pull your dives in closer to the board yourself.

During warm-ups, I was getting excited, because, as I looked around, I was thinking I might take the thing. I had my dives down really well and I didn't see anyone else doing a couple of the difficulty I knew I could do well. Well, pride goeth before....

During the warm-ups I went up for an 'inward' -- which is where you stand with your back to the pool, on the edge of the board, and then spring back and up and dive forward. The minute I left the board I knew I had over-corrected and I was going to hit the board. My face slammed into it, chipping the end of the fiberglass board, knocking off half of my front tooth, and ripping clear through my lower lip.

    No meet, emergency room, etc.

A week later my mouth was still so swollen that for my birthday my boyfriend gave me a baby spoon (the only thing besides a straw that would go in my mouth) and some jars of baby food.

Yeah, I remember my 18th birthday!

July 3rd 1979, went to New Hampshire, 'cuz the drinking age was 18. Got really drunk & barfed all over the place. Six days later I was in the Navy.

Quitting drinking was a major victory, for me. Praise God.

Don't remember the birthday as much as my wedding three days later. I think I had dinner with my parents.
