Wouldn't it be something if our sun was going to super nova in the next fifty years and scientists knew this? Do you really feel our government would tell us the truth? Not likely.

If scientists knew this, "the government" can only stop publications in their own country. The scientific community is an international one and would jump at the bit to publish something of that magnitude.

If the sun went supernova, we'd only have 8 minutes to tell everyone.

This is what the Duke study concluded (from your link):

Durham, N.C. -- At least 10 to 30 percent of global warming measured during the past two decades may be due to increased solar output rather than factors such as increased heat-absorbing carbon dioxide gas released by various human activities, two Duke University physicists report.

The physicists said that their findings indicate that climate models of global warming need to be corrected for the effects of changes in solar activity. However, they emphasized that their findings do not argue against the basic theory that significant global warming is occurring because of carbon dioxide and other “greenhouse” gases.

Basically, that fluctuations in solar activity MAY contribute 10-30% but the remaining 70-90% is from greenhouse gases.

It is an undeniable fact that global warming exists. However, it is not a fact that global warming is primarily or solely the result of human civilization. That being said, I think it is wise and responsible to take reasonable steps to reduce, and if possible, eliminate the artificial production of greenhouse gases and other potentially damaging waste products. We can't simply presume that mother nature will fix itself.

Weather patterns are cyclical. We probably are getting warmer on a macro scale... but I doubt the foundation exists to justify the shrill cries from environmentalists.

More than likely, our contribution is relatively minor and even significant changes would have very little consequence. For instance, if we are 5% of the problem we can't make a significant impact if we stop all activities that emit green house gases.
