Not in my experience. I feel far safer here knowing that none of my neighbours are tooled up and that the worst that can happen if i get involved in an altercation is a black eye or cracked ribs rather than getting my brains blown out (and before anyone mentions the straw men of knives or cars, (a) there are strictly enforced laws against possession of knives in public so I have no real fears there, (b) in the extremely unlikely event of someone pulling a knife in a fight you can run away from a knife and (c) if someone drives their car at you at speed then liberal gun laws are not much help as the recent tragic events at Charlottesville have demonstrated.

So give me British 'totalitarianism' (LOL; you guys crack me up! ) over American 'freedom to be shot' anytime; how's that 'freedom' from 'big government ' going down in Houston? Doesn't look like the authorities there are getting their act together to do anything to help vulnerable people like the poor and those in nursing homes.

 

If that means not having my wife accidentally shot by one of my kids as seems to happen with depressing regularity as do your shooting spree massacres in the US then, yes, I'm perfectly fine with that. As is my wife, for the record

Texas prisons are full of teen agers doing time for crimes of violence. They have no respect for anyone and don't scare easily.

I would argue that a teenage intruder is far more dangerous than an adult, because he's far less predictable.
