hypothetically--how would salvation work in someone with multiple personalities?

I was watching videos by people with DID (Dissasociative Identity Disorder), which was formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder, and they described their personalities as being basically, different people from themselves. Each personality had it's own set of memories that were not shared with the other personalities, and could act independently of each other--when one personality takes control, the main personality will not remember anything from the time the other personality took over. (The personalities form as a result of severe trauma at a young age, basically the child's brain creates different personalities to cope with severe abuse.)

Many psychiatrists are skeptical that the disorder is even real, and not all of them agree that individuals with DID actually have different personalities.

But if they are different personalities, they specified that the personalities can even follow different religions from each other. If that's the case, how do you think salvation would work? If one personality was saved, would the other personalities be saved by default, or?

So I'm guessing you think mentally ill people such as myself are not truly saved then. (I don't have DID, I do have OCD)

Multiple personalities are not saved, only the one personality given to you by God, that is the inner man of the spirit that God created in righteousness and holiness inside you, the real you is saved, any other personalities are demonic manifestations and of course are not saved. When you get to heaven and stand before the son of man, there will be only the one you, in your right mind, recall the demoniac, after meeting with Christ, was clothed and in his right mind.

Along the lines of thought I have on the subject. They are demon possessed.

Right, let's just assume we know all about something we know next to nothing about.

Do you have a sound mind?

Depends on how you define "sound mind". Mental illness, aside from some cases like dementia, isn't someone losing their mind or losing the ability to reason. If that's the definition of an unsound mind, then the overwhelming majority of mentally ill people most definitely have sound minds, even if their illness is severe. Even people with illnesses that affect their ability to tell reality from what's in their heads, such as schizophrenia, would for the most part fall under having a "sound mind". People with DID are also able to reason and function.

If you consider being severely depressed, severely anxious, or living with some form of psychosis, paranoia, or delusions to make one's mind "unsound", then that brings up more questions than answers regarding where the line lies.

(OCD is considered a type of anxiety disorder)

The brain isn't a mind. So wiring issues aren't what is being spoken of. And the cure for many minor anxiety issues is good, hard manual labor. Ecclesiastes 5:12

When Jesus healed the demoniac, he was described as "In his right mind." He was calm, and orderly and in control. Luke 8:35

I've heard recently that in all the neurological research in which areas of the brain have been stimulated, no one has caused the generation of even one word or thought. Only sensations and movement.

The mind is a feature of the soul. It is your spirit or heart where evil thoughts, or faithful thoughts originate. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, faith and self control. Where those are lacking, so is a measure of the Spirit.

The Nightmare. (I believe that's the documentary) Interviews people who do and who have suffered from sleep paralysis. Some scary stuff. I do NOT recommend a casual viewing. Say your prayers. Real prayers.

One girl said that during her episodes, it dawned on her to invoke the name of Jesus, and she was delivered.

Demonic oppression to possession is just a matter of degrees of control. The whole world is under the sway of Satan, so the entire world is oppressed by the devil.

    1 John 5:19
We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

Stealing, killing, destroying, lying, ruining people's lives is what Satan likes to do.

I have had sleep paralysis episodes without the hallucinations--it happens when you wake up while your brain still thinks you are asleep. Your brain releases a chemical during sleep that paralyzes you so that you don't act out your dreams, hence being unable to move.

The hallucinations (which I have not experienced) have been described as a way in which your brain tries to make sense of the lack of control--your breathing is still the same as if you were asleep, so you feel as if you are suffocating and your brain accounts for this as if something was sitting on your chest.

Mental illnesses such as clinical depression and clinical anxiety are more often than not brain issues.

    What chemical is that?

    Sleep Paralysis Causes
Just why or how it happens isn't clear. Researchers believe sleep paralysis is caused by a disturbed rapid eye movement cycle because it mostly happens as people are falling into or coming out of REM sleep. During that stage, their brains normally paralyze their muscles anyway -- so they don't act out their dreams. But during sleep paralysis, the sleeper is awake, or half awake, and so is aware she cannot move.

I disagree, but I know it's pointless to argue. Your argument isn't with me, anyway. The question was "...how would salvation work in someone with multiple personalities? " I've given my answer from the Scriptures, which are what we are given to make one wise unto salvation through faith.

Spending more time in the Scriptures praying and learning of Jesus wouldn't hurt you, anyway.

I too feel it is pointless to argue. Mental illness is one of my pet topics that I get very defensive and worked up over, and I don't have the time or the spoons for that today.

The word that is translated to "sound mind" in the KJV is sophronismos, which is translated to "self discipline" in other translations.
By your interpretation of the verse, aren't you excluding the severely mentally disabled from salvation as well? I do not feel it's intended to address people with conditions they have no control over, including those with DID. Such conditions are a result of the fall.

I used to have sleep paralysis. Rarely ever happens now. It started a few weeks after I almost got killed during a felony arrest and lasted several years. I am sure it was PTSD related, but I got through it with prayer, The Word, and fasting. never went the head shrink route.

I know a lot about it. My uncle and my first cousin, both next door neighbors, were/are schitzophrinic/ bi- polar, multi personality disorder. I have followed their medical treatment for over 40 years.
How did Jesus handle multiple personality disorder? He cured it by casting out devils!
